Ferrum College and the School of Arts and Humanities are proud to announce the launch of the new Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Music and Theatre: Professional Stage Performance. This four-year program prepares students for careers in performance through hands-on professional-level experience beginning in the first year and culminating with the creation, marketing, and touring of a fully-produced solo work. Students pursuing the BFA study with veteran professionals, receive individualized training in both music and theatre, and may additionally opt to complete certificates in Appalachian Music and/or Appalachian Storytelling and Child Drama.
“We are excited to introduce the new Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) program at Ferrum College, a significant addition to our academic offerings that will provide students with expanded opportunities for artistic growth and professional development,” said Ferrum College President Mirta Martin. “Led by talented faculty, this program is designed to nurture creativity, refine technical skills, and prepare students for dynamic careers in the arts. We look forward to seeing the talent and innovation that will emerge from our BFA students as they enrich our campus community and beyond.”
“This program is the first of its kind—a practicum-based initiative that not only offers students rigorous training but also immerses them in intergenerational community, challenging them to discover their place in the world as artists and leaders,” said Assistant Professor of Music and Theatre Emily Blankenship-Tucker. “We welcome students who look beyond themselves—who are eager to join a collaborative creative community dedicated to sustainability in art-making for both themselves and their communities, and who have the drive and grit to take on all that we are called to do here at Ferrum College.”
Applicants are currently being enrolled in the fall 2025 cohort. The program is also transfer-friendly to anyone who successfully auditions for admission with no fewer than four semesters remaining in their undergraduate degree. Anyone interested in requesting an audition or seeking more information may contact Program Coordinator Emily Blankenship-Tucker at ebtucker@ferrum.edu.
