Fitness Center

Welcome to the Fitness Center

From weight training and basketball to intramural sports and more, we have something for everyone! Ferrum College Fitness Center offers a wide variety of exercise and recreational opportunities. We are committed to fostering health, vibrancy, and productivity in our community.

Group Fitness

Classes will be offered Tuesday through Thursday at 5:15 p.m., with the following schedule:

  • Tuesday: Full-Body
  • Wednesday: Core
  • Thursday: HIIT

All classes are open to Ferrum College students, faculty, and staff, regardless of fitness level or experience.

Intramural Sports schedule

Ferrum College Intramural Flag Football Tournament 

If you are interested in participating, please review the information below:

Registration Deadline: Thursday, September 3 at 11:59 p.m.
Game Format: 7-on-7 Flag Football
Season Start: Monday, September 7
Regular Season Game Times: 7:00–10:00 p.m.
Championship Game: Friday, October 9

Eligibility

The tournament is open to eligible Ferrum College students. Current Ferrum College football and flag football players are not eligible to participate.

How to Register

Only the team captain needs to complete the initial registration form. The captain will be responsible for submitting the team roster and the required contact information for each player on their team.

After registration closes, every player listed on the roster—including the team captain—must complete the required liability waiver and accident form before participating. The Fitness Center will use the email addresses provided by team captains on the registration form to send these required forms directly to each participant’s Ferrum College email address.

Important: All required forms and waivers must be completed before a player is permitted to participate. Any player who does not complete the required liability waiver and accident form will not be permitted to play.

Season Format

The regular season will run for three weeks, beginning Monday, September 7. Regular-season games will be played between 7:00 and 10:00 p.m.

Following the regular season, there will be a break for Fall Break. When students return from Fall Break, the playoffs will take place that week, culminating in the championship game currently scheduled for Friday, October 9.

The winning team will receive championship rings.

Additional information regarding game rules, scheduling, and tournament procedures will be shared with registered teams prior to the start of the season.

  • Cardio equipment including treadmills, elliptical, indoor bikes both recumbent and spin, and rower
  • Strength equipment including Hammer Strength, free weights, dumbbells, and Nautilus strength machines
  • Studio with jump rope, steps, ExerTubes, light weights, yoga mats, yoga blocks, yoga bolsters, balance, fit balls, Bluetooth speaker, and interval timer
  • Full and half court for basketball, volleyball, pickleball, lacrosse, indoor soccer, conditioning drills, and more
  • Racquetball court

rules and Regulations

Ferrum College wants your experience in this facility to be pleasant and safe. Please follow the facility rules outlined below.

  1. Participants utilize the fitness center and equipment at their own risk. Ferrum College is not responsible for any injury that may occur to individuals participating in any exercise activity. Participation in exercise activity is on a voluntary basis.
  2. Consult a physician before beginning an exercise program.
  3. All fitness center participants must be at least 16 years old. Special waivers may be required for any underage programs.
  4. Proper athletic attire must be worn at all times. Athletic shoes must be worn at all times. Absolutely no sandals or open-toed or open-backed shoes are permitted.
  5. All weight equipment should be handled in a responsible manner. Please refrain from slamming or dropping weights. Abuse of the equipment will not be tolerated. Users should return all free weights on appropriate racks after use.
  6. Have a spotter when using heavy weights. Collars are required at all times for bench press, incline press, decline press, and squats.
  7. Participants must use the equipment only in the manner intended by the manufacturer. Please follow all instructions and posted signs carefully. Participants shall not move or modify the equipment in any manner whatsoever.
  8. Do not use the equipment if you are taking any medication that causes drowsiness or have any medical condition that makes such use inappropriate.
  9. Be courteous, let others work in with you, help spot someone if asked, and refrain from loud or abusive language.
  10. Wipe down equipment after use.
  11. Disorderly conduct and horseplay will not be tolerated.
  12. Fitness center participants should report all equipment malfunctions to fitness center staff.
  13. Food is not permitted in the fitness center. Water, Gatorade, or sports drinks are permitted provided they are in sealable, plastic containers. No glass bottles are permitted in the fitness center. Please dispose of all trash in the receptacles.
  14. Alcohol, smoking, and drugs are not allowed on the premises. Do not drink alcoholic beverages before using the fitness center.
  15. Ferrum College is not responsible for lost or stolen personal items. Any bags brought into the weight room or gym should be placed against a wall out of the way.
  16. Individuals not adhering to these policies may be asked to leave. Ferrum College Fitness Center staff reserve the right to revoke the privileges of anyone who violates these rules.
