Hello Ferrum College Family and welcome back students, faculty and staff! We are excited to move into our Fall schedule at the Fitness Center! We have a few new procedures this year that we want to bring to your attention.

If you plan to use the Fitness Center – and we hope you do – you need to complete the Liability Waiver that will remain in place for the year. The MOST EFFECIENT way to complete this is to sign into your Panther Portal – click on MY LINKS – and Fitness Center Waiver – Scroll through and click submit at the bottom. You will receive an email verification and we will also be notified that this is complete and on file. That’s it!

Please scan your Ferrum ID at the front desk upon arrival each visit.

Ferrum College wants your experience in this facility to be a pleasant and safe one. Please follow the facility rules outlined below.

  1. Participants utilize the fitness center and equipment at their own risk. Ferrum College is not responsible for any injury that may occur to individuals participating in any exercise activity. Participation in exercise activity is on a voluntary basis.
  2. Consult a physician before beginning an exercise program.
  3. All fitness center participants must be at least 16 years old. Special waivers may be required for any underage programs.
  4. Proper athletic attire must be worn at all times. Athletic shoes must be worn at all times. Absolutely no sandals or open-toed or open-backed shoes are permitted.
  5. All weight equipment should be handled in a responsible manner. Please refrain from slamming or dropping weights. Abuse of the equipment will not be tolerated.  Users should replace all free weights on appropriate racks after use.
  6. Have a spotter when using heavy weights. Collars are required at all times for bench press, incline press, decline press and squats.
  7. Participants must use the equipment only in the manner intended by the manufacturer. Please follow all instructions and posted signs carefully. Participants shall not move or modify the equipment in any manner whatsoever.
  8. Do not use the equipment if you are taking any medication that causes drowsiness or have any medical condition which makes such use inappropriate.
  9. Be courteous, let others work in with you, help spot someone if asked, and refrain from loud or abusive language.
  10. Wipe down equipment after use.
  11. Disorderly conduct and horseplay will not be tolerated.
  12. Fitness center participants should report all equipment malfunctions to Fitness Center Staff.
  13. Food is not permitted in the fitness center. Water, Gatorade or sports drinks are permitted provided they are in sealable, plastic containers. No glass bottles are permitted in the fitness center. Please dispose of all trash in the receptacles.
  14. Alcohol, smoking, and drugs are not allowed on the premises. Do not drink alcoholic beverages before using the fitness center.
  15. Ferrum College is not responsible for lost or stolen personal items. Any bags brought into the weight room or gym should be place agaist a wall out of the way.
  16. Individuals not adhering to these policies may be asked to leave. Ferrum College Fitness Center Staff reserves the right to revoke the privileges of anyone who violates these rules.

Friday: 6:30 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Saturday:
10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Sunday: 12:00 noon – 9:00 p.m.

The Ferrum College Fitness Center is run with the Health and Human Performance program and we are proud to offer both Personal Training and FREE Fitness Check Ups. Our students and graduates are already certified as Personal Trainers or are in the process of becoming nationally certified.

Ferrum College Students receive 3 FREE 60 minute Personal Training sessions and full time Faculty and Staff receive 10 complimentary Personal Training sessions as part of your benefits package.

We are excited to be able to welcome back the community to utilize our Fitness Center.  We are happy to honor our former Ferrum YMCA memberships for up to one year.  Community membership are also available for purchase.

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

AMRAP – AS MANY REPS AS POSSIBLE – Let us guide you through a total body strength workout – you choose the weight and we all push each other for as many reps as possible.  45 minutes

FASO RESTORATIVE YOGA – Time dedicated to our faculty and staff to restore and rejuvenate mid week.  45 minutes

BARBELL PUMP—Revamp your weight loss and muscle gain with high reps and barbell weights in this HIGH ENERGY class.  You’ll never be bored with this fast-paced program! Suitable for all fitness levels.   45-60 minutes

SPIN – Spin is a highly effective way to build cardiovascular strength and endurance. Designed for all ages and fitness levels, Spin offers a challenging stationary bike ride with fun energizing music. It’s the perfect opportunity to get your heart pumping while you burn some serious calories. 45 minutes

SPIN – TRAINING WHEELS – Designed for beginners, see what the talk is all about.  This 30 minute class introduces participants to spin class!  Lots of fun, a slower pace and attention to technique provided.  30 minutes

BOOT CAMP – This 3 series Boot Camp style workout utilizing stations and circuits.  This class modifiable for all fitness levels – attend all 3 for an amazing & complete workout!!  60 minutes

YOGA & MEDITATION – Enhance your week with an intention setting, deep stretch, yoga workout followed by a meditation.  45 minutes
