HOMECOMING & FAMILY WEEKEND 2021

Homecoming & Family Weekend 2021 will take place on campus October 15–17, 2021. Weekend highlights include a family friendly bike tour of campus, the Ferrum Takeover event at Mellow Mushroom in Roanoke, tailgating, class and athletic team reunions, the football game against Shenandoah University, and much more. FRIDAY, OCTOBER 15

CORRON CLASSIC GOLF TOURNAMENT

11:00 am • Great Oaks Golf Course, Floyd, VA

This annual fund-raiser for the Panther Club (all Ferrum College sports programs) is a popular captain’s choice tournament! Reservations are required. Teams fill up fast, so please register as soon as possible to ensure your foursome’s place on the roster.  Cash prize of $400 total for the winning team.

You may enter as a team or as an individual player; if you do not have a foursome you will be assigned one. Cost includes greens’ fees, golf cart, meal, 2 drink tickets and tee gift. If you (or your company) are interested in sponsoring a hole please contact the Athletics Office directly. 

Prizes: Prizes will be awarded immediately following the tournament. All participants will receive a complimentary gift. In addition, there will be special contests such as: Closest to the Pin, and Longest Drive.

No Playoffs: Tie breakers will be determined with a draw of the cards. Mulligans are available: $20 per foursome, limit one per player. The mulligan may be used on any stroke except PAR 3 tee shots.

FAMILY FRIENDLY BIKE TOUR

4:00 pm – 6:00 pm • Franklin Lawn

Join us for a fun bike ride with the Norton Outdoor Adventures group. There will be stations and instruction to help you improve your skills. Bring your bike or try one of the mountain bikes that will be available. Complimentary.

FIELD HOCKEY GAME

4:00 pm • Daniels Field

Ferrum Panthers and Coach Carrie Austin take on Virginia Wesleyan University in our fourth year in the ODAC. We look forward to seeing you in the stadium supporting our women’s field hockey team. Be sure to sport your black and gold!

We are excited to bring back this popular event during Homecoming weekend. Kick off the weekend and unwind after work with current alumni, faculty, and staff at our first Ferrum Takeover Event. HOMECOMING TAILGATES 

8:00 am • Bassett Field, between Bassett Hall and Swartz Gym

Claim your space starting at 8:00 am.  We will have music, fun, food trucks, and children’s activities throughout the day.  Parking is first come, first serve.  Lot may fill up in which case you will be moved to overflow parking.  New this year is Tailgate Alley.  We will have a new parking set up to allow easier flow for tailgating and entry.

ALUMNI WELCOME TENT

8:00 am- 1:30 pm • Bassett Field, in the infield area

Want to enter a raffle for a $100 bookstore gift certificate?  Check in at our tent and update/verify your contact information for a chance to win.  Winner will be drawn at 1:30 pm. and you do not have to be present at drawing to win.  Also, find out where your favorites are tailgating or leave a note for your friends.

AGRICULTURE CLUB REUNION BREAKFAST

VISIT THE BLUE RIDGE INSTITUTE AND FARM MUSEUM

10:00 am – 4:00 pm • Blue Ridge Institute

Visit the Blue Ridge Institute & Farm Museum and check out the new exhibit, Traveler’s Trinkets: Souvenirs of Virginia. The BRI is designated the State Center for Blue Ridge Folklore and is the largest folk life museum in the Old Dominion. The Institute includes a living history nineteenth century farm complete with period animals and gardens, two exhibit galleries, an extensive archive, and a gift shop.

GOLDEN PANTHERS ANNUAL FALL CELEBRATION & INDUCTION OF THE FIFTIETH REUNION CLASS OF 1970 and 1971

Registration at 10:30 am Brunch at 11:00 am followed by the Class of ’70 and the Class of ’71 Induction Ceremony ● Leo Scott Pavilion, Blue Ridge Farm Museum

All alumni prior to the class of 1970 and 1971 are welcome to join us as we usher in the new Golden Panther class for their fiftieth reunion.  Golden Panther Chair Keith Fisher ’68, will welcome the group and give an update on upcoming Golden Panther gatherings and the club project. Learn about how this active alumni group is supporting the new generation of Ferrum Panthers.

NORTON OUTDOORS CANOE/KAYAK EXPERIENCE

11:00 am -12:45 pm • Adams Lake

Enjoy some paddling on campus!  Our experienced Norton Outdoors staff will provide kayaks and canoes for you to enjoy. Stop by and float on Adams Lake and then be able to take part in the tailgating and football game. This is a weather dependent event and wear some clothes and shoes you do not mind getting wet just in case.  If you have questions, call Norton Outdoors, Aaron Conover at 540-365-4324 or email nortonoutdooradventures@ferrum.edu.  This event is slated for children ages 10 and above.  Under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. HOMECOMING FOOTBALL GAME

1:00 pm • W.B. Adams Stadium

Football is the anchor of the Homecoming weekend for students and their families, faculty and staff!  Help fill the stands and cheer for Head Coach Cleive Adams and the Panthers as they take on Shenandoah University in this year’s Homecoming matchup. Halftime activities include the presentation of the Homecoming king and queen and the court along with introductions of the 1971 Football Team. Don’t forget to wear your black and gold and share your Panther spirit! Tickets available at the gate. $10.00 cash only.

1971 FOOTBALL TEAM REUNION

5:00 pm – 6:30 pm • Panther’s Den, Franklin Hall

The 1971 football team is celebrating their 50th reunion and look forward to having a dinner and sharing memories from their time at Ferrum. Cost $12.00. PLEASE REGISTER.

Calling all Ferrum College Young Alumni and friends!  Join us for the inaugural Ferrum College Young Alumni Gala!  Let’s come together to dance, mingle, and socialize just like our Ferrum days while giving back to a worthy cause. Disc Golf

Disc golf is available on the course at Ferrum College near the Ferrum YMCA.  Play 18 holes and see who’s best.  Play once or several times throughout the weekend. For more information, contact our Ferrum Outdoors staff at 540-365-4324.

Provide your own equipment.  Catch and release required.  No fishing license is needed on Ferrum’s campus.

We are kicking off Homecoming 2021 with a Ferrum College Day of Giving on October 12, 2021. At Ferrum we believe the whole is greater than the sum of our parts, that we learn from one another, that respectful debate elevates our learning and that no matter your story or where you come from, Ferrum will welcome you. At a time when it feels like wherever we turn, we are tearing people down; we believe Ferrum is the tie that binds each of us together.
