“Pixels and Pages” is a multimedia storytelling exhibition that explores both the magic and the macabre found in the forests of Appalachia. Through a blend of photography, poetry, memoir, and digital design, Green examines the fragility and determination of life nestled in the mountains.

An Appalachian artist and multi-disciplinary creative based in Rocky Mount, Virginia, Green describes herself as a “Jill of All Skills,” embracing a wide range of tools and approaches to creative problem-solving. Samples of her work can be found on Facebook and Instagram at @GreenfinchMedia.

Green explained that in her art, she “is drawn to the way nature coexists with the often unnoticed and abandoned traces of humanity. I enjoy searching for the unseen and highlighting that in my work. Rain, rust, insects, and forests are commonly showcased, and an undercurrent of transformation and renewal frequently makes an appearance.”

Green will graduate from Ferrum College on May 2 with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design. She currently serves as president of the Art & Media Club. She is also a member of Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society, and the National Society of Leadership and Success.

At the 2025 Academic Awards Ceremony, Green was named Staff Member of the Year for Chrysalis Literary and Arts Magazine, and she is editor-in-chief this semester. She has won a number of awards for her writing and photography published in the magazine, including first place in the spring 2025 issue for the photograph copied here, entitled “Drop.”

“Mattie Green’s ‘Pixels and Pages’ is a powerful reflection of creativity, curiosity, and the distinctive spirit of Appalachia,” said Ferrum College President Mirta Martin. “We are proud to celebrate her work and invite our community to experience this thoughtful and immersive exhibition at the opening reception on Thursday afternoon.”

Following the opening, the exhibition will remain on display through May 1, 2026. Viewing hours are Monday through Friday, 7:45 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Sunday from 3:00 to 11:00 p.m.
