The Ferrum College Student Counseling Center (FCSCC) takes a comprehensive approach to student mental health. We offer an option for 1:1 counseling with a licensed clinician through Teladoc Health
Teladoc delivers comprehensive, integrated virtual care that spans each stage in a student’s health journey. This is a complete general medical and behavioral health package at NO COST to the student. The package includes:
General Medical: 24/7 convenient, high-quality, low-cost care. Used for non-emergency conditions. All physicians are board-certified, with over 20 years of experience. They can prescribe medication and send it to the student’s pharmacy of choice. Appointments can be on-demand or scheduled.
Mental Health Crisis Support: When students log in, they answer a few questions to assess their symptoms and severity and any life events that may be impacting them. This will help them get the care they need and identify a crisis.
Structured Mental Health Digital Support—Self-guided programs to manage episodic stress and provide in-moment relief. These programs enable progress between therapy or coaching sessions. They also reduce the risk of relapse or regression for those with complex conditions and address the unique needs of adolescents.
Mental Health & Wellness—This program addresses mild symptoms before they become costly and complex conditions. It includes live coaching sessions, digital homework between sessions and ongoing 1:1 support and guidance.
Scheduled Mental Health Therapy & Psychiatry: Students can schedule mental health therapy and continue to see the same counselor. If psychiatric intervention is necessary, the attending counselor or physician will refer.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM COUNSELING? On your first visit you will complete an intake session with your clinician. This will help the clinician determine support and interventions based on your individual needs. This will be a collaborative relationship, and the clinician will often ask you to practice skills outside of the session. This is designed to strengthen your coping and distress tolerance skills.
MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC SERVICES: Psychiatric services are not available on campus, but students can work with their therapist to locate psychiatric services off campus if needed.
EMERGENCY/URGENT REQUESTS: We will make every attempt to see any student in an urgent or emergency crisis during regular office hours. Call (540) 365-4219 and request an urgent appointment.
If it is after regular office hours: If it is an emergency, please contact Campus Police at (540) 365-4444.
