The Spanish minor is designed for students who wish to achieve a higher level of proficiency in Spanish while also deepening their knowledge of Hispanic culture. Courses at the 300 level and above challenge students to discuss social, political, historical, and artistic movements and trends in Spain and Latin America entirely in Spanish.
Spanish Minor Sample Courses
Intercultural Competence Through Language I
A study of Spanish grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary. The course includes practice in speaking, reading, and writing the Spanish language and an introduction to Hispanic cultures.
Advanced Grammar and Composition
This course will further develop grammar, vocabulary, speaking, and listening, with a special focus on reading and writing skills. Students will use readings of current events and historical materials as topics for discussion and writing.
Special Topics in Hispanic Culture
An exploration of the short story in Spanish with an emphasis on historical trends within the genre. This course will strengthen the students’ ability with literary analysis and their Spanish language skills.
