Interdisciplinary Studies Major
Why Study Interdisciplinary Studies at Ferrum College?
When a traditional major doesn’t quite align with a student’s academic, professional, and personal goals, Ferrum College has several options for how they can design their own major to achieve those goals. The integrated studies program and the liberal studies program provide frameworks for developing those majors.
Integrated or Liberal Studies
integrated
Building upon Ferrum College’s established academic strengths, the major in integrated studies affords focused and organized students with academic interests that do not align in the traditional programs of study to develop their own unique major.
In consultation with two faculty advisors, students craft an educational experience that meets the academic rigor of established undergraduate programs.
liberal
Liberal studies provides the possibility for a program of study to meet educational goals not exactly satisfied by other academic programs. There are possibilities of three or more minors that may be developed into a coherent program of study.
Students prepare a statement in which they list their educational objectives and explain how a particular combination of minors will help them to achieve them. A degree plan is developed and the complete proposal is signed by the faculty advisor who will oversee the program.
