Why Study Health and Human Performance at Ferrum College?

The health and human performance major is a health, fitness, physical performance, and nutrition program grounded in current research and science. The program provides strong collaborations with professional organizations and opportunities for national certifications as personal trainers, strength and conditioning coaches, health education specialists, and group fitness instructors.

Health and Human Performance Emphasis Areas and Sample Courses

Health and human performance is composed of two emphasis areas that allow students to focus their study.

Careers in Health and Human Performance

Personal Trainer

Responsible for motivating and guiding clients to train toward their physical fitness goals, which could include losing weight, building muscle, increasing core strength, or improving cardiovascular fitness.

Health Educator

Provide health care education to communities, organizations, or specific populations. They assess health care needs, develop health education programs, and perform targeted health care education interventions.

Strength and Conditioning Coach

Responsible for establishing and maintaining a strength and conditioning program for all sports, with the three major goals of improving athletic performance, reducing athletic injuries, and teaching lifelong fitness and movement skills.
