Ferrum, VA, November 15, 2025 — Ferrum College was transformed into a place of holiday magic this week as more than 60 kindergarteners from Ferrum Elementary School visited campus for what has become a cherished annual tradition.
On November 11, the children arrived at Stratton House to help decorate the president’s Christmas tree. As they entered, they were greeted by none other than Santa Claus himself. Each child joyfully shared their Christmas wishes with Santa before placing their handmade ornament on the president’s tree. The ornaments will remain on display at Stratton House until December 19, when they will be returned to the school so each child may take home their special keepsake for Christmas.
Two days later, on November 13, the kindergarteners returned to campus for a festive Tree Lighting and Caroling Ceremony. Joined by members of the Ferrum College band, faculty, staff, and students, the children began their journey in Franklin Hall, where the first Christmas tree was lit. From there, the group processed to John Wesley Hall and concluded at Stratton House, lighting trees at each stop as Christmas carols filled the crisp November air.
“It is a joy to welcome the kindergarteners back each year,” said Emily Blankenship-Tucker, director of Appalachian Music and Assistant Professor of Music and Theatre. “Sharing music with children during the holidays is a gift, and their excitement is contagious. I’m excited to continue this tradition with everyone, especially as we launch the holiday season with our annual production of Emmett Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas, opening December 5 and running until December 14. This is Ferrum College’s gift to our community.”
At the final stop, the children were welcomed with Christmas cookies, punch, and cider—a sweet ending to a morning filled with joy, music, and community spirit.
Ferrum College President Mirta M. Martin shared the warmth of the season, saying, “Christmas is the most magical time of the year, and what better way to launch the holidays than through the laughter of small children and the wonder of the season reflected in their eyes and spirits. Their joy brings our campus to life, and we are grateful to share these traditions with them.”
Ferrum College looks forward to continuing this heartwarming partnership with Ferrum Elementary School, celebrating the holiday season with traditions that inspire, uplift, and remind us all of the true meaning of Christmas.
