Ferrum College Students Find Community Connections at Local Business Expo

08/20/2025

Ferrum, VA, August 20, 2025 — Ferrum College students connected with area businesses, churches, and nonprofit organizations during the Local Business Expo on Monday, August 18, 2025. Thirteen organizations participated in the event, which showcased the services, resources, and community spirit available right in Ferrum College’s backyard.

Vendors offered everything from information and giveaways to fun extras. Food vendors, including Poobie’s Kwik Stop, shared delicious treats, while Gracefully Rooted, a local salon, provided free upper-body massages to interested students.

Community groups such as Ferrum Forward and the Friends of Ferrum Park used the expo as an opportunity to highlight upcoming events, fundraisers, and internship opportunities. Students also learned about the Ferrum Farm and Craft Market, held weekly through October in the park adjoining campus, and got a preview of this year’s much-anticipated Haunted Trail in October.

Earlier in the month, Ferrum College’s healthcare partners joined in welcoming students to the area, with Tri-Area Health of Ferrum visiting campus on August 13 to share information about local health services.

Ferrum College President Mirta Martin praised the event, noting the strong connection between campus and community. “Our students thrive when they feel supported not only by Ferrum College but by the community they now call home,” she said. “The Local Business Expo is a wonderful example of how Ferrum College works hand-in-hand with neighbors and partners to ensure our students feel welcomed, valued, and connected.”
