Ferrum College To Host Spring Coffee House on April 3 at 8 p.m.

04/02/2025

FERRUM, VA, April 2, 2025 – A coffee house for the campus and community will be held on April 3 in the Panthers Den at Ferrum College, beginning at 8 p.m. It is sponsored by Chrysalis Literary and Arts Magazine, The Iron Blade campus newspaper, and the English club called The Undead Poets Society.

At open-mic coffee houses held several times throughout the academic year, students, faculty, and staff are invited to read original poems and short stories, sing, or present other talents. Anyone is welcome to attend and participate without signing up in advance.

“Ferrum College, we celebrate the creativity and voices of our students, faculty, and staff,” said Ferrum College President Mirta Martin. “The open-mic coffee house is a wonderful tradition that brings our campus and community together to share stories, poetry, music, and more. I commend Chrysalis Literary and Arts Magazine, The Iron Blade, and The Undead Poets Society for fostering this vibrant space for artistic expression. I encourage everyone to attend and experience the incredible talent that makes Ferrum College so magical.”

The faculty advisors of the sponsoring student groups are all English professors: Katherine Grimes for Chrysalis, David Campbell for The Iron Blade, and Dan Murphy for The Undead Poets Society. Past issues of Chrysalis can be read online and the Spring 2025 issue will be released at the end of this semester.

The Panthers Den is located on the ground floor of Franklin Hall. For additional information, contact Dr. Katherine Grimes, professor and program coordinator of English, kgrimes@ferrum.edu.
