Ferrum, VA, August 13, 2025 — Ferrum College welcomed its largest group of student-athletes in recent program history at the annual Athletic Convocation on Tuesday, August 12, 2025. The event honored the accomplishments and commitment of Panther athletes and coaches while marking the start of an exciting new era as the College begins its Division II journey.
Director of Athletics Cleive Adams, a proud alumnus of the College, opened the convocation by praising the resilience and commitment of the student-athletes. “This is a historic year — for me, for you, and for everyone connected to Ferrum College. This convocation is more than a gathering — it’s a testament to the dedication our athletes bring day in and day out. Seeing this community come together, ready to support and uplift one another, sets the tone for an incredible year ahead.”
All athletic coaches representing 21 NCAA Division II sports, their assistants, and the Athletics administrative team joined together in the ceremony, underscoring the depth of Ferrum College’s athletic community.
President Mirta Martin followed with a stirring message, emphasizing the strength and unity of the athletic division. “We are Ferrum College; we are Ferrum Rising! Be your brothers’ and your sisters’ keepers. Support each other — in you, through you, there is strength; there is hope; there is excellence. There is no finer group of people leading you through this milestone year than your coaches. Your names will be written in the history books as pioneers in Ferrum College’s transition to Division II and leaders of #TheJourney.”
Dr. Karen Carpenter, faculty athletic representative, highlighted the dual commitment of Ferrum College’s student-athletes to both their sports and their academic pursuits. “Our student-athletes are shining examples of balance and excellence,” she said. “This convocation reinforces our ongoing dedication to supporting their holistic growth, ensuring they thrive on the field and in the classroom.”
