Dr. Brian Suttell is Director of the Richard L. Smith Center for International Programs at Ferrum College. Part of the Center’s role is to offer Ferrum students the opportunity to study abroad, participate in internships, and be part of service learning programs in countries all over the world.
“Study abroad is a life-changing experience that opens so many doors for students professionally, academically, and in terms of personal growth, and we encourage every Ferrum College student to learn about the opportunities we offer,” says Dr. Suttell. “Now is the time for students to apply for Summer 2024 programs.”

Dr. Mirta Martin, president of Ferrum College, affirms the important role such experiences can have for students. “Studying abroad is a hallmark of liberal arts education because it fosters an understanding of the world beyond ones own perspective. Whether it is a one week medical shadowing program in Spain or a more immersive 5 week program, students have the opportunity to see the world beyond their own experiences. The personal growth as well as intellectual learning from that is often difficult to quantify other than to say it is life changing, and that is the mission of Richard L. Smith Center for International Programs at Ferrum College.”
