Ferrum College Announces Jamie Green, Commissioner of the Virginia Marine Resources Commission, as New Board of Trustees Member

FERRUM, Virginia, March 3, 2025 — On Friday, February 21, Ferrum College Board of Trustees Chairman Scott Showalter announced that Jamie Green, Commissioner of the Virginia Marine Resources Commission, will join the Board of Trustees.

“Jamie Green brings a variety of experiences and connections that will be very helpful in advancing the efforts of the college,” said Showalter.

Mr. Green was appointed as the Commissioner of the Virginia Marine Resources Commission (VMRC) by Governor Glenn Youngkin in 2022. With nearly two decades of service at VMRC, he brings extensive experience in marine law enforcement, fisheries management, and coastal resilience. Prior to his appointment as Commissioner, he served as Deputy Chief of Law Enforcement for the Virginia Marine Police.

Commissioner Green is actively engaged in regional and national fisheries and conservation efforts. He serves as Chair of the Potomac River Fisheries Commission and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC). In 2024, he was appointed Chair of the ASMFC Resolution Committee. Additionally, he is a member of the Technical Advisory Committee for Coastal Resilience and contributes to the Port Recovery Executive Committee working group.  

Beyond his work in fisheries and conservation, Commissioner Green is dedicated to broader economic and policy initiatives. He is a current member of the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition and serves as the Seafood Labor Liaison for the Commonwealth of Virginia, advocating for the state’s vital seafood industry.  

Commissioner Green is a graduate of Saint Leo University and the prestigious Southern Police Institute at the University of Louisville. His leadership continues to support Virginia’s marine resources, fisheries, and coastal communities.
