Ferrum College Chaplain Reverend David “Pastor Dave” Taylor is dedicated to faith, mentorship, and community, actively supporting student initiatives and building relationships on campus. Many students appreciate his genuine passion for helping them grow spiritually, personally, and as leaders.
An ecumenically minded Christian pastor and ordained minister in the Wesleyan tradition, Pastor Dave has a diverse background: 15 years in pastoral ministry, 40 years in higher education, 25 years as an industry executive, seven years in executive coaching, and 22 years serving as a U.S. Air Force officer (Lt. Col., retired). Previously, he was Ferrum College’s assistant chaplain, offering pastoral care, leading Bible studies, and forming meaningful connections across campus.

As chaplain, Pastor Dave works to expand faith-based opportunities, serving all students with care and respect. Grounded in prayer and pastoral care, his ecumenical, student-focused approach guides individuals through growth, transition, and challenge. He’s passionate about helping students develop resilience, character, purpose, and hope, and collaborates with campus partners and student leaders to enhance worship, discipleship, and spiritual growth within the Ferrum community.
Pastor Dave can be reached at davetaylor@ferrum.edu or (804) 240-5344. His office is Room 106 in Franklin Hall.
Ferrum College affirms that the college experience is an integration of intellectual growth, physical well-being, and spiritual formation. Founded by the women of the Virginia Methodist Annual Conference, Ferrum College continues to honor its heritage by transforming ‘promise into purpose,’ demonstrating that it can make an extraordinary difference in the world. This mission is evident in the institution’s daily life. The College fosters an environment where body, mind, and spirit are developed in concert. Students of all faith traditions are welcomed and encouraged to engage in programs, outreach, and fellowship opportunities that support spiritual growth and deepen understanding of how personal and shared beliefs shape our lives and the world around us.
The Office of Spiritual Life serves as a welcoming and reflective space for this work. Its mission is to cultivate a formative and inclusive spiritual life by helping all students, faculty and staff explore meaning, build authentic community, engage trusted mentors, and integrate faith, purpose, resilience, and integrity into daily living. The Office provides pastoral support, connects individuals with opportunities both on and off campus, and walks alongside them throughout their time at Ferrum College.
Throughout the academic year, the Office offers a range of opportunities for engagement, including small group discussions, service and mission experiences, intentional faith formation groups, worship arts, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Young Life, and partnerships with local churches for Bible study and fellowship.
The Vaughn Chapel Meditation Room is open during the week for quiet reflection and personal renewal. Interdenominational worship services – grounded in the Christian tradition and often student-led – are held throughout the year and are open to students, faculty, staff, and members of the broader community.
In addition to Ferrum College’s worship services, faith communities representing many traditions are located in the surrounding area. The Office of Spiritual Life can assist students in finding a church or faith community of their choice.
The college experience is a unique integration of body, mind, and spirit. Ferrum College Campus Ministries offers space for students to seek to unite, and invites students into a thoughtful and meaningful exploration of faith as part of a well-rounded college experience. For more information, please contact the Office of Spiritual Life at (804) 240-5344 or stop by Room 106 on the lower level of Franklin Hall.
