The Monday Music Jam at Ferrum College is a free weekly event on The Crooked Road: Virginia’s Heritage Music Trail. Every Monday of the year at 7:00, anyone can join in for an evening of authentic old-time and bluegrass music. You can play instruments, sing, dance, or just listen and enjoy.
Arrive any time between 7 p.m. and 8:30. Chairs are available for everyone and if you have mobility issues, or you’re carrying a big instrument, you can pull up close to the door.
See the Facebook page Appalachian Music at Ferrum College for updates and more photos and videos.
LOCATION
Although recent jam photos show the outdoor BRIM venue, it’s getting chilly outside. On October 5, 2026, the jam will move indoors to the Rex Stephenson Theatre in the lower level of Schoolfield Hall on the main campus. This new location is needed because so many people have been attending since this spring. Hurray! If you follow these directions, it’s not far from Rt. 40 and from the parking lot to get in the theatre.
Note that Schoolfield Hall is officially on Wiley Drive, but the backstage lakeside door is up a steep hill (with a stairway) and there is no parking on Wiley Drive (past Adams Lake) unless you park at the library or behind Franklin Hall. The default address of the college is 215 Ferrum Mt. Rd. but that’s not actually the address of any building except John Wesley Hall.
Need to find more handicapped parking? Take the third driveway from Rt. 40 and there are handicapped spots that should be free in evenings, between Britt Hall and Richeson Hall. It’s a little farther from the theatre but on flat sidewalks (not hilly) from the parking spots.
DID YOU KNOW YOU CAN EAT HERE?
Anyone can eat at college venues when they are open (hours vary when college is not in session). They are in Franklin Hall right next to the theatre so you can purchase all-you-can eat meals in the dining hall upstairs, or get something in one of the venues downstairs in Franklin, and then pop over to the music jam.
DID YOU KNOW YOU CAN USE THE COLLEGE LIBRARY?
Stanley Library is right next door to the theatre, across the patio from the front of Schoolfield Hall. If you need a place to hang out before or after the music jam, or want to use a library, it and Franklin Hall are open long hours when school is in session.
