Chemistry Minor Sample Courses

General Chemistry I

Introduction to the structure of atoms and molecules, stressing molecular electronic properties, periodic behavior, solutions, gas laws, chemical equilibrium, thermochemistry, and chemical properties. Mathematical relations are stressed throughout.

Introduction to Organic and Biochemistry

An introduction to the structural and functional relationship of organic and biological molecules, including hydrocarbons and their derivatives, aldehydes, ketones, amines, carboxylic acids, esters, amides, carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and enzymes, and DNA and RNA.

Organic Chemistry I

A comprehensive, two-semester study of the compounds of carbon using the functional group approach and emphasizing reactions, mechanisms, synthesis, and spectroscopy. Three-hour laboratory each week.
