Where is West Virginia?
The Appalachian Mountains are a great mountain system of eastern North
America, nearly parallel with the Atlantic coast and extending from Quebec
in Canada to Alabama. The system is about 1,500 miles long and varies from
about 100 to more than 300 miles in width. Its altitude varies between
about 1,500 and nearly 7,000 feet.

West Virginia is the only state falling completely within
the region known as Appalachia.


West Virginia is a small state, only 24,231 square miles
in area.
