FERRUM, VA, December 12, 2025 – The Blue Ridge Institute & Museum (BRIM) at Ferrum College will host its ninth annual Christmas at the Farm event on Friday, December 19, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the 1800 farm museum on Rt. 40 in Ferrum. The event is free and open to the public.

With elements of a traditional Blue Ridge Christmas, the BRIM offers visitors free homemade cookies and cider, holiday shopping with a variety of vendors at the pavilion, and tours of the farmhouse, which will be lit with lanterns for the holidays. Vendors bring an array of unique items such as crafts, books of regional interest, preserved farm produce, and homemade baked goods.

Professor Emeritus Bob Pohlad, who took the beautiful outdoor photographs within this article, wrote after last year’s event, “The fire was burning in the fireplace. Popcorn and cranberries were being strung for the Christmas tree. The walk through the lights to the farmhouse was amazing and the view back toward campus was spectacular.”

Bethany Worley, director of the BRIM, said, “This is a very special event for us–it allows us to show how grateful we are for our community and their support.”

The BRIM is the official state center for Blue Ridge folklore in Virginia. Its 1800 German-Virginia farm museum is the largest living history museum in southwest Virginia, with costumed interpreters who demonstrate household and farm chores, heirloom gardens, and historic breeds of animals. In addition to the Blue Ridge Folklife Festival on the fourth Saturday of every October and the music jams hosted every Monday evening of the year by the College’s Appalachian Music program, the BRIM schedules special events throughout the year.

Ferrum College President Mirta Martin said, “Christmas at the Farm is a joyful reminder of our rich heritage and the strong community that surrounds Ferrum College. I am grateful to the BRIM staff and volunteers for bringing this tradition to life during Christmas–the most wonderful time of the year.”
