Adjunct Sports in the Media instructor

Ferrum College, an NCAA Division II institution located in Ferrum, Virginia, is seeking
an enthusiastic adjunct instructor to lead classroom instruction in sports media
broadcasting.

This is a part-time position beginning January 11, 2026.

Primary Purpose:
The adjunct instructor in sports media will provide instruction that introduces students to
the link between media outlets and sports organizations. The course highlights the
various strategies that media outlets use to secure broadcasting rights, develop sports
programming schedules, and plan brand-specific sports programming to generate
revenue. Under the guidance of the instructor, students will explore the various
programming strategies of diverse sports networks, watch industry-specific
documentaries and interviews with executives and sports media professionals, and
identify the process of creating sports-based media content for sporting events.

Onsite and remote instruction are possible for this position.

Because of state tax regulations, the successful applicant must reside in Virginia.

Essential Functions: Provide classroom instruction during class meeting times and execute necessary course evaluations such as quizzes, tests, and classroom readings.
Provide students with a foundational understanding of how sports media networks
function, the role of sponsorships, advertising and other financial drivers, and licensing
and permitting necessary to execute a remote sports broadcast operation.

Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in sports media or equivalent experience. Related fields such as
journalism, public relations, broadcast journalism with a concentration in sports
broadcasting, or technical direction of live broadcast operations will also be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a coeducational collegiate environment; two or more years of
experience as a live sports broadcast technical director.

Assistant Professor of Nursing

The nursing faculty individual is a registered nurse responsible for planning, teaching and evaluating students in their area of expertise.

Essential Functions:

Develop, implement, and evaluate the philosophy, objectives, and policies of the nursing education program.
Become familiar with the college catalog, and college policies.
Teach in courses within area of expertise.
Design, implement, teach, evaluate, and revise the curriculum as necessary.
Develop and evaluate nursing student admission, progression, retention, and graduation policies within the framework of the college.
Participate in academic advising and counseling of students in accordance with requirements of the Financial Education Rights and Privacy Act (20 USC 1232g).
Provide opportunities for and evidence of student and graduate evaluation of curriculum, teaching, and program effectiveness.
Input data ongoing into the systematic evaluation plan.
Serves as a role model and resource for the students.
Maintains and exhibits mastery of his/her area of nursing expertise.
Effectively use a variety of teaching/learning strategies to promote a spirit of inquiry and to stimulate student learning.
Assists students through support, remediation, and tutoring.
Attend meetings/programs as designated by the Nursing Director and/or College.
Pursue professional and scholarly activities through research, publications, and attendance and/or presentations at professional societies or groups.
Hold membership and participate in professional organizations through involvement on the local, state, and/or national levels.
Maintain excellent and consistent student customer service.
Serve as a resource person.
Other duties as assigned.

Clinical instruction as needed:

Ensure all clinical instruction and activities are in compliance with the course of study.
Conduct student pre/post conferences pertaining to clinical as needed.
Supervise nursing students participating in clinical activities.
Confers with corresponding course to clinical course faculty regarding clinical rotation plan, assigned clinical agencies, and assigned group of students.
Select patient assignments and learning experiences according to course objectives.
Reviews clinical/course objectives with students.
Provides supervision and guidance for the student using components of the nursing process.
Completes mid and final reviews with students using the QSEN clinical evaluation.
Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with staff and personnel of clinical agencies.

Minimum Qualifications:

Individuals must possess a Master’s degree from an accredited college/university.
Faculty members with a graduate degree with a major other than nursing shall have a baccalaureate degree with a major in nursing.
Hold a current unencumbered Registered Nursing (RN) license or multistate licensure privilege to practice nursing in Virginia.
Minimum of two years of direct client care experience as an RN.
Provide evidence of experience in the specialty area in which they will teach and/or supervise students.

Ferrum College seeks adjunct clinical instructors for the baccalaureate nursing program. The successful candidate must have a strong commitment to teaching and supervising clinical experiences for undergraduate, pre-licensure nursing students.

Qualifications:

BSN required; MSN preferred
Current active and unrestricted Registered Nursing (RN) licensure in the state of Virginia or multistate licensure privilege
At least 2 years of direct client care experience as an RN
Prior experience in nursing education is favorable.

Qualifications:

PhD or DNP required.
Current active and unrestricted Registered Nursing (RN) licensure in the state of Virginia or multistate licensure privilege
At least 2 years of direct client care experience as an RN
Experience in teaching on-line.
Certification in Clinical Nurse Leader is favorable.
