Open Positions

Assistant Professor of Teacher Education – Secondary Education & Partnership Coordinator

Ferrum College invites applications for a full-time, benefits-eligible Assistant Professor of Teacher Education position. We seek a dedicated educator to join our growing teacher education program, which focuses on secondary education. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to teacher preparation through teaching, advising, program coordination, and faculty mentorship.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach two courses per semester
  • Teach OTCC courses to new faculty and support all faculty with using Brightspace and/or online teaching.
  • Schedule all secondary education courses to ensure program alignment and student success.
  • Observe and support faculty within the Teacher Education Department.
  • Place interns for secondary placements and student teachers
  • Advise middle and high school English and math education majors.
  • Recruit, support, and manage adjunct faculty within the department.
  • Oversee Kappa Delta Pi, the education honor society, fostering student engagement and professional development. 
  • Lead recruitment efforts to grow and strengthen the secondary teacher education program.
  • Develop and manage all local and regional educational partnerships, such as provisional licensing

Qualifications

A doctorate (Ed.D. or Ph.D.) in education or a related field is preferred; a master’s degree with significant experience is considered.

•Experience in secondary education and/or teacher preparation.
•Strong commitment to mentoring future educators and collaborating with school partners.
•Experience with online learning platforms is a plus.

CAEP Coordinator & Teacher Education Program Support Specialist

This 12-month staff appointment is pivotal in accreditation, clinical partnerships, licensure, and student success across our teacher education programs. The initial term is one year with the possibility of renewal. The role allows for a hybrid schedule, but the successful candidate must be able to be on campus at least three days each week.

Essentials Functions:

  • CAEP Coordinator & Primary Contact – Lead all accreditation activities; ensure continuous compliance with CAEP and Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) standards; oversee data collection, analysis, and report preparation.
  • Program Alignment & Assessment – Monitor Ferrum’s teacher education curricula to guarantee alignment with accreditation and state licensure expectations.
  • Clinical Educator Liaison – Coordinate field placements; cultivate and sustain clinical relationships with area PK–12 schools; support and train mentor teachers.
  • Performance Presentation Coordinator – Plan and host the annual Teacher Education Performance Presentations showcasing candidate achievements.
  • VDOE Reporting Officer – Prepare and submit all required VDOE documentation and surveys on schedule.
  • Teacher Licensure Coordinator – Advise candidates on licensure pathways, process licensure applications, and track compliance with evolving state regulations.
  • Advising & Teaching – Serve as an academic advisor for secondary education majors and teach education courses as program needs dictate.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree (required) or doctorate (preferred) in Education or a closely related field by August 2025.
  • Demonstrated experience with CAEP accreditation processes and VDOE reporting.
  • Exceptional organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Evidence of successful collaboration with faculty, staff, and school district partners.
  • Background in teacher preparation, field supervision, or licensure coordination (strongly preferred).

Assistant professor of Nursing

The nursing faculty individual is a registered nurse responsible for planning, teaching and evaluating students in their area of expertise.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate the philosophy, objectives, and policies of the nursing education program.
  • Become familiar with the college catalog, and college policies.
  • Teach in courses within area of expertise.
  • Design, implement, teach, evaluate, and revise the curriculum as necessary.
  • Develop and evaluate nursing student admission, progression, retention, and graduation policies within the framework of the college.
  • Participate in academic advising and counseling of students in accordance with requirements of the Financial Education Rights and Privacy Act (20 USC 1232g).
  • Provide opportunities for and evidence of student and graduate evaluation of curriculum, teaching, and program effectiveness.
  • Input data ongoing into the systematic evaluation plan.
  • Serves as a role model and resource for the students.
  • Maintains and exhibits mastery of his/her area of nursing expertise.
  • Effectively use a variety of teaching/learning strategies to promote a spirit of inquiry and to stimulate student learning.
  • Assists students through support, remediation, and tutoring.
  • Attend meetings/programs as designated by the Nursing Director and/or College.
  • Pursue professional and scholarly activities through research, publications, and attendance and/or presentations at professional societies or groups.
  • Hold membership and participate in professional organizations through involvement on the local, state, and/or national levels.
  • Maintain excellent and consistent student customer service.
  • Serve as a resource person.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Clinical instruction as needed:

  • Ensure all clinical instruction and activities are in compliance with the course of study.
  • Conduct student pre/post conferences pertaining to clinical as needed.
  • Supervise nursing students participating in clinical activities.
  • Confers with corresponding course to clinical course faculty regarding clinical rotation plan, assigned clinical agencies, and assigned group of students.
  • Select patient assignments and learning experiences according to course objectives.
  • Reviews clinical/course objectives with students.
  • Provides supervision and guidance for the student using components of the nursing process.
  • Completes mid and final reviews with students using the QSEN clinical evaluation.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with staff and personnel of clinical agencies.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Individuals must possess a Master’s degree from an accredited college/university.
  • Faculty members with a graduate degree with a major other than nursing shall have a baccalaureate degree with a major in nursing.
  • Hold a current unencumbered Registered Nursing (RN) license or multistate licensure privilege to practice nursing in Virginia.
  • Minimum of two years of direct client care experience as an RN.
  • Provide evidence of experience in the specialty area in which they will teach and/or supervise students.

visiting Assistant professor of Business

Ferrum College is seeking applications for a faculty position in Business at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor for the 2025-2026 academic year. This is a one-year position with the possibility of renewal. Successful applicants will be dynamic, student-focused teachers whose area of expertise includes:

  • Macroeconomics
  • Microeconomics
  • Principles of finance
  • Quantitative methods for business

Preference will be given to individuals who demonstrate an ability to interact with diverse audiences and who are able to incorporate innovative, inclusive pedagogies and technology into their teaching. Given the breadth of emphasis in the Business Administration Program, the preferred candidate should be effective in teaching across multiple sub-disciplines.
Beginning August, 2025 the successful candidate will teach a full course load (12 credit hours) of undergraduate courses in business.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D., D.B.A., or M.B.A. with a specialization in management or related business disciplines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • College-level teaching experience.
  • Relevant professional experience.
  • Demonstrated potential to engage in and conduct funded research in a relevant field.
  • Publication record in management or related sub-disciplines.
  • A strong commitment to experiential, hands-on learning and the liberal arts classroom.
