Emily Blankenship-Tucker
Director of Appalachian Music, Assistant Professor and Program Coordinator of Music and Theatre
Emily Blankenship-Tucker began her career as a professional performer when she joined the Jack Tale Players and Blue Ridge Dinner Theatre company in 2001. Today, she carries on that work as a member of the teaching faculty at Ferrum College, while continuing to perform, music direct, compose, and share directing and technical responsibilities. Her recent theatrical credits include Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas (Ma Otter, Director, Music Director), Twelfth Night (Music Director), Nunsense (Sister Mary Amnesia, Music Director, Choreographer), Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (Director, Music Director, Choreographer), and Steel Magnolias (M’Lynn). Emily teaches classes in music, theatre, creative drama, and social dance; she leads and performs with Orchestra Appalachia, Ferrum College’s touring bluegrass and old-time ensemble and “house band.” Emily is also a founding member of the nationally touring “hot-folk” trio After Jack. She holds degrees from Alfred University and Union Institute & University, and an M.F.A.-I.A. in Interdisciplinary Arts from Goddard College.
