The Ferrum College Mountain Winds is a community concert band established during spring of 2019 by Dr. Sixto Montesinos. It rehearses during the academic year on Monday nights from 6:45 PM to 8:00 PM. The FCMW is open to anyone in the surrounding communities that plays a wind or percussion instrument. String instruments such as double bass or violins are welcome to join at the discretion of the conductor.

The FCMW performs 2 concerts per semester. The difficulty level of the music is moderate considering that students and community members may have limited time to practice based on their busy professional or personal lives.

No audition is necessary at the moment but as the ensemble grows this may change. There is also no age requirement. However, basic proficiency in a musical instrument and experience playing in concert band is expected to successfully perform the selected repertoire for concerts.

The Ferrum College Iron Mountain Brass is a brass ensemble comprised of Ferrum College brass students. It is also open to members of the community. The FCIMB performs Christmas carols during the fall for surrounding communities and also performs one feature concert in the spring. For more information on how to join this ensemble email Mr. Gregory Rock at grock@ferrum.edu.
