Since Ferrum College is proudly affiliated with the United Methodist Church, many scholarship and loan opportunities exist for those students who are active members.

Important Notice

Students may be limited to only one scholarship per year from the various organizations (UMHEF and GBHEM). Please contact the organization for additional information, deadlines and eligibility.

Double your Dollars for Scholars

The United Methodist Higher Education Foundation will provide a $1000 matching scholarship for churches that raise and provide $1000 on behalf of student members enrolled or planning to enroll full time in a UM related college, university, or seminary. Students will receive $2000 for the academic year. Only one application per church, per student is allowed. A check payable to the UMHEF from the sponsoring church must be mailed along with the application (available online). Students should review the online application for deadlines each year.

Triple your Dollars for Scholars

Ferrum College will match the funds received in the Double your Dollars for Scholars program making the award $3000 per year!

United Methodist Leadership Scholars

Supported by the UMHEF and the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM). Through the UMLS program, local churches are encouraged to provide $1000 scholarships for students planning to attend in a participating United Methodist-related college or university. The institutions will match local church funds for a total award of $2000. UMHEF has agreed to provide a limited number of $1000 matching scholarships for a total award of $3000. UMHEF Foundation Merit Scholars Program

These awards are for any UM students enrolled in a UM related institution. Awards are based at 1 $1000 scholarship for each class (freshmen, sophomore, junior, and senior). Applications are available in the Financial Aid Office.

To qualify students must:

  • Be a full and active member of the UM Church for at least a year prior to applying
  • Be a Citizen or permanent resident of the US
  • Demonstrate Financial Need
  • Have a GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Be enrolled full time

UM Student Loan Program

Students may apply for a loan if they:

  • are an active, full member of the UMC for at least 1 year prior to application
  • are admitted to a degree program at an accredited institution  within the U.S.
  • maintain at least a C average

Cosigners are required for all loans. The following persons are not eligible cosigners: spouse, fiancé or fiancée, pastor. No exceptions are made to these requirements.

How does one apply?
Applications are available online. All applications are subject to the approval of the Nashville office and the availability of funds.

What are the legal obligations?
A promissory note signed by the borrower and a cosigner legally binds them to the repayment terms as specified in the note. Interest accrues on the principal loan balance from the date the loan check is disbursed and continues until the loan is paid in full. The borrower may repay all or any part of the principal plus accrued interest at any time without penalty.

What about repayment of loans?
Account is scheduled for repayment to begin six (6) months after graduation or withdrawal from school. Final payment is due no later than 120 months from date first payment is due. Repayment may be made online.
