SUMMARY:Ferrum Community Book Club
DESCRIPTION:The Ferrum Book Club meets every month except December on the third Monday of the month at 6 p.m. All are welcome to join for any or all discussions. \nLocation: Britt Hall 204\, Ferrum Mountain Road\, Ferrum\, VA 24088\n(Turn left into 3rd driveway from Rt. 40 on Ferrum Mountain Road to park behind Britt Hall.)\nIf anyone has mobility issues\, the group can meet downstairs\, not far from a ground-floor door and handicapped parking spots. Just let someone know. \nBook for discussion on August 17: A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness. \nFrom Candlewick Press: \n“Patrick Ness’s #1 New York Times bestseller and Carnegie Medal-winning masterwork is poised to attract a discerning crossover audience. \nThe monster in Conor’s backyard is not the one he’s been expecting — the one from the nightmare he’s had every night since his mother started her treatments. This monster is ancient. And wild. And it wants something from Conor. Something terrible and dangerous. It wants the truth. From the final idea of award-winning author Siobhan Dowd — whose premature death from cancer prevented her from writing it herself — Patrick Ness has spun a haunting and darkly funny novel of mischief\, loss\, and monsters both real and imagined.” \nAlso known as the Time Traveler’s Book Club\, this group usually discusses one novel per month – different kinds of novels chosen by the group in fall for the following year\, and occasionally a nonfiction book. \nThis is a small community group open to anyone\, not a Ferrum College organization. No sign-up or prior notice is required. If you haven’t finished a book (and don’t mind spoilers) or haven’t read the book but you’d like to hear a book discussion anyway and see what it’s like\, just show up. Participants acquire the books on their own from a library or bookseller. \nFor more information and to get on the group’s email list\, contact Lana Whited at Ferrum College\, lwhited@ferrum.edu\, or Susan Selvage\, sselvage22@yahoo.com. \n  \n \nUpcoming Books\nSept. 21    Night Watch by Jayne Anne Phillips \nOct.  19     Are You Now or Have You Ever Been? by Amanda Cockrell \nNov.  16    Nobody’s Girl by Virginia Roberts Guiffre \nDecember – no meeting \n  \n
