Lead From Wherever You Are
There are a myriad of opportunities for students to take an active leadership role in the classroom, in the residence halls, on the playing fields and within the Ferrum community.
Upper-class peer mentors play a critical role in supporting the Gateway Freshman Seminar Program. As they are adjusting to life at college, new students often turn first to their mentor with questions about academics and campus life in general.
Resident Assistants (RAs)
RAs are student staff members that provide counsel, guidance and support to their peers in the residence halls in addition to organizing community-building activities.
Residence Hall Association (RHA)
All students, regardless of class year, are eligible to join the Residence Hall Association. The RHA is a campus-wide organization established to promote communication between residence halls and to develop a sense of unity and cooperative spirit.
Student Government Association
The Student Government Association (SGA) is an elected organization that advocates for the needs and interests of the student body in order to continually improve all facets of student life. As the “voice of the student body” the SGA Cabinet serve as a conduit for communicating and expressing student perspective on various issues to the administration, faculty and staff.
All four undergraduate classes elect a president vice president and secretary, forming the Class Council. These representatives build class unity by organizing events and programs for their respective classes. In addition, each Class Council serves as the “voice of the class” by sharing ideas and concerns specific to their class with the SGA Cabinet.
The Student Senate is comprised of student representatives from each of the residence halls on campus, as well as a member who serves as a representative for commuter students. The Student Senate serves as the forum for ideas and concerns at the residence hall level to be surfaced and brought forth to the SGA Cabinet.
Student Organization Leaders
There are over 50 student organizations at Ferrum College and each is led by students following their passion. These leaders organize their groups, manage the budget and recruit new members that share common interests.
Sports Team Captains
Student athletes excel on the fields and demonstrate their leadership skills as captains of Ferrum’s 23 varsity teams and a wide-variety of intramural and club sport teams.
Student work study opportunities abound at Ferrum College. These positions can provide students with significant leadership experiences while giving them the opportunity to build valuable relationships with students, faculty and staff.
