Lead HVAC Technician

Ferrum College is currently accepting applications for a full-time, 40-hour/week Lead HVAC Technician to maintain, repair, fabricate and/or install heating, ventilation, refrigeration and air conditioning equipment for our campus.

Our HVAC Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining and repairing HVAC systems and equipment.  This position is also responsible for diagnosing electrical and mechanical faults, as well as cleaning and making adjustments to existing systems.

Physical Requirements:  Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.  Position requires full range of body motion including reaching, stooping, kneeling, and climbing, working indoors and outdoors in all types of weather.

Qualifications:  Must have a minimum of 5 years similar experience and certification in HVAC.

Lead Floor Technician

Ferrum College has an immediate opening for a Lead Floor Technician in our housekeeping department.  Individual to perform major floor cleaning including stripping floors, shampooing carpets, etc.  Experience in using floor buffers, burnishers and carpet machines preferred.  Individual must do general housekeeping duties on occasion.  This is a full time, 40-hour week flexible schedule position.  Occasional weekend and overtime work required.  Must be able to carry & lift up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally.  Valid drivers license and good driving record required.

Financial Aid Counselor

Police Officer

Ferrum College is currently seeking to fill the position of Police Officer. Candidates must be able to perform law enforcement and security functions within the College Police Department. Duties, responsibilities, and requisite skills include but are not limited to: providing vehicle, bicycle or foot patrol of the campus; responding to calls for service and on-view suspicious activities; resolving complaints; investigating criminal and traffic incidents; providing first responder aid when required; and other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications:
To be considered as a candidate, applicants must meet the following qualifications at the time of application:

  • Must currently be certified as a police officer in the commonwealth of Virginia by the Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS), or eligible for recertification under DCJS guidelines with 40 hours of Mandatory In-Service Retraining
    • Have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license;
    • No driving under the influence (DUI) convictions.
    • No felony convictions or convictions of misdemeanors involving crimes of moral turpitude or gross misconduct;
    • Successfully pass an background investigation;
    • Successfully complete a mandated Field Training Program administered by the department; and
    • Must live within 45 miles of the Ferrum campus.Preferred Qualifications:
    • Five years of law enforcement experience is preferred; 10 or more years is strongly desired;
    • Certified Crime Prevention Specialist;
    • Presentation experience;Leadership experience; and
    • Experience in community-oriented policing.Hiring Process:
    As openings occur, the initial steps of the hiring process include a successful review of the application/Personal History Statement, successful completion of the department’s physical assessment. The best qualified candidates will be invited to an oral interview panel. Post Conditional Offer requirements include an in-depth background investigation. Building Attendant/Housekeeping Department

Ferrum College has an opening in our Housekeeping Department. Housekeeping includes general housekeeping duties in residential halls, office/classroom buildings, and other buildings. On Call Drivers

Ferrum College is accepting applications for On-call Drivers to assist in meeting the transportation needs of Ferrum College. Vehicles used will be provided by the College. Responsibilities may include transporting students on College-sponsored field trips, special events, or other off-campus opportunities; performing routine fueling and pre-trip inspection of vehicles; and recordkeeping. This position requires some overnight travel. A background check and driving check are required.

Applicants must be over 21 years of age; have a current drivers license and good driving record; have the ability to drive safely in all types traffic conditions in both rural and urban settings; and must be willing to submit to post-offer and annual background checks, including Motor Vehicle Report checks. Drivers may be required to undergo drug testing initially and periodically. Drivers are required to operate vehicles in accordance with the Ferrum College Vehicle Safety Policy and other College policies as procedures, as well as applicable state and federal laws.
