Open Positions

Campus Minister (seasonal position)

Ferrum College is accepting applications for the seasonal position of Campus Minister. The Campus Minister coordinates religious life activities at the College, provides pastoral care to students, faculty, and staff, and serves as liaison between the College and the Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church. The Campus Minister will report to the Dean of Students.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Coordinates and assesses ecumenical religious activities on campus, including activities of the religious life organizations on campus and serving as advisor to such organizations, as appropriate.
  • Oversees ecumenical chapel services and special services of worship as needed.
  • Works with other departments on campus to discuss students who may be at risk because of academic, emotional, or disciplinary problems and to make necessary referrals. Other members of the campus community may participate as needed.
  • Provides opportunities for ecumenical discussion of current topics of religious or social concern, and other discussions and forums as the need arises.
  • Provides pastoral care to the College community and assists with crisis situations that may arise.
  • Supervises Vaughn Chapel.
  • Serves as liaison between the College and the Virginia Annual Conference in matters that do not directly involve the President of the College.
  • Serves as a spokesperson for programs of the College which enhance the church-relatedness of the College.
  • Teaches up to two (2) introductory Religion courses per academic year, and may also, with the approval of the President, teach additional courses per semester
  • Other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

Candidates should possess the following minimum qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in divinity, human services, or a similar area
  • Prior experience with young adult and/or campus ministry
  • Strong interpersonal communication and organizational skillsOther: The work schedule of this position may vary considerably, but will include evening and weekend hours. Averaged over a year’s time, the individual in this position will work approximately nineteen (19) hours per week.

Fitness Center Staff (Nights/Weekends)

Ferrum College has an opening for a seasonal Fitness Center Staff Member.  This position will cover nights and weekend hours.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:  assisting in staffing the Fitness Center year-round, providing supervision to both interns and work-study students; keeping the facility in clean and working condition; providing customer service to the user groups of the facility; and, providing knowledge and direction regarding the use of the equipment and facility.  This is a non-benefit eligible position.

The candidate should have experience with providing supervision to college-aged students, experience with customer service, and knowledge of the fitness industry.  Preferred qualifications include a bachelor’s degree and experience working in a fitness center.

Lead HVAC Technician

Ferrum College is currently accepting applications for a full-time, 40-hour/week Lead HVAC Technician to maintain, repair, fabricate and/or install heating, ventilation, refrigeration and air conditioning equipment for our campus.

Our HVAC Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining and repairing HVAC systems and equipment. This position is also responsible for diagnosing electrical and mechanical faults, as well as cleaning and making adjustments to existing systems.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Position requires full range of body motion including reaching, stooping, kneeling, and climbing, working indoors and outdoors in all types of weather.

Qualifications: Must have a minimum of 5 years similar experience and certification in HVAC.

Ferrum College has an opening in our Housekeeping Department.  Housekeeping includes general housekeeping duties in residential halls, office/classroom buildings, and other buildings. This includes vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, trash removal.  Must be capable of a full range of body motions including reaching, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and walking.

This is a full time, 40-hour week position with occasional weekend and overtime work.  Must be able to work a flexible schedule.  Driver’s license and good driving record required.  Background check required.

On Call Drivers

(Ongoing/recurring seasonal status)

Ferrum College is accepting applications for On-call Drivers to assist in meeting the transportation needs of Ferrum College. Vehicles used will be provided by the College. Responsibilities may include transporting students on College-sponsored field trips, special events, or other off-campus opportunities; performing routine fueling and pre-trip inspection of vehicles; and recordkeeping. This position requires some overnight travel. A background check and driving check are required.

Applicants must be over 21 years of age; have a current drivers license and good driving record; have the ability to drive safely in all types traffic conditions in both rural and urban settings; and must be willing to submit to post-offer and annual background checks, including Motor Vehicle Report checks. Drivers may be required to undergo drug testing initially and periodically. Drivers are required to operate vehicles in accordance with the Ferrum College Vehicle Safety Policy and other College policies as procedures, as well as applicable state and federal laws.
