Assistant Athletic Trainer

Ferrum College, an NCAA Division-III member institution and a member of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, is seeking applications for the position of Assistant Athletic Trainer. This is a full time, 9 month position with full benefits. This position will assist in providing medical services for Ferrum’s 20 varsity intercollegiate and three club sports. The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for providing assistance to the Head Athletic Trainer in the prevention, evaluation, treatment, referral, and rehabilitation of injuries and illnesses to over 500 student-athletes. Specific duties include, but are not limited to: providing daily health care of student-athletes, maintaining appropriate athletic training room operations, recording and maintaining appropriate medical records for treatment given, daily practice/competition coverage and some travel responsibilities of assigned sports (sport assignments to be determined), assisting with inventory maintenance and budget, and other miscellaneous job-related duties as deemed necessary by the Head Athletic Trainer.

Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree; BOC certification; eligible for State of Virginia Athletic Training Licensure; current Emergency Cardiac Care Certified (ECC) certification; basic computer and Microsoft Office skills. Candidates should be well-organized and capable of working both independently and as part of a team.  Effective verbal and written communications skills are essential.

Preferred qualifications: Master’s Degree; experience working in a coeducational collegiate environment; two or more years of experience as a certified athletic trainer; experience with SportsWare computer system; Additional certifications are desirable (First AID/CPR instructor, reputable strength and conditioning certification, Graston technique, FMS, etc.).

Director of Development

Ferrum College, a private liberal arts institution founded in 1913, seeks a dynamic, energetic fundraiser to serve as its Director of Development. Under the direction of the Vice President of Institutional Advancement, the Director would be responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing a comprehensive and robust giving program at Ferrum College.

The duties of this position will encompass the following:

1. Under the direction of the VPIA, lead IA staff and efforts in all aspects of the gift cycle including donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, closure, stewardship, and reporting.
2. Supervise advancement staff members responsible for gift processing, prospect research, and stewardship
3. Manage account of current and prospective major donors
4. Monitor and evaluate all fundraising strategies to determine their success in achieving certain fundraising goals
5. Create and execute a Ferrum Fund strategy to encourage increased giving in support of the annual operating budget
6. Prepare annual budgets required to fund realistic, consistent and measurable fundraising programs
7. Assist with major gifts, corporate, and foundation funding opportunities in collaboration with the VPIA and others.
8. Deepen Ferrum’s partnerships and engagement efforts in key markets: Roanoke, Martinsville, Richmond, Tidewater, DC Metro, Lynchburg
9. In coordination with the business office, develop and maintain procedures for administering, accounting, reporting, and other internal management operations related to development.
10. Serve as an ambassador for Ferrum College in the community

Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree, 7+ years of successful experience in fundraising, sales, business development, or related experience, preferably in higher education. Preferred qualifications knowledge of CRM software and data management, and 10+ years advancement experience with demonstrated success in closing substantial “asks.” This position will require the following:

1. Proficiency in organizational, managerial, and fundraising communications
2. Excellent interpersonal, relationship building, and solicitation skills
3. Excellent verbal and communication skills
4. Proven self-starter capable of independent work and a willingness to innovate

Assistant Women's Lacrosse Coach

Executive Director of Academic Success/Dean of Academic Success

Ferrum College invites applications and nominations for the position of Executive Director of Academic Success or Dean of Academic Success.  This dynamic leader will oversee and further develop the academic support services, programming, and initiatives at Ferrum College in beautiful Southwest Virginia. The campus-wide support services include:

  • The Tutoring Center provides a variety of academic resources including: peer tutoring sessions, one-on-one tutoring, and peer facilitated study groups.
  • The Ask ME First Center is committed to providing first generation college students with resources that contribute to their academic and personal success.
  • The Office of Academic Accessibility assists students with advocacy and provides support and accommodations for students who seek help and who provide appropriate documentation of a disability.
  • The Academic Progress and Evaluation Office is responsible for student advising records, assisting students with staying on-track for graduation, and planning for freshman and new transfer students by coordinating the course registration process for PAWS orientation session.
  • The Think and Learn Center provides individualized professional tutoring and academic support for freshman students enrolled in the Learning Community.
  • The Panther PRIDE Program, an academics and career preparation program for athletics, provides advising, academic support, academic resources, and the development of career focus and skills for student athletes.
  • The First-Year and Second-Year Experience Programs plan and coordinate programs to assist with student retention during years one and two.
  • The Academic Counseling Program collects data and works with students on warning and probation to assist students with returning to good academic standing.

The Executive Director of Academic Success or Dean of Academic Success will report to the Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs and serve as a member of the Academic Cabinet.  This campus leader will have opportunities to expand resources for our highly diverse student body and partner with campus offices to identify and implement new ways to support specific student populations (e.g., international, first generation, part-time, commuters, transfers, veterans, and NCAA Div. III student-athletes). Qualifications and Application
Candidates must possess a minimum of a master’s level degree and five years of related professional experience.  Candidates that possess a doctorate in a related field will be eligible for the title Dean of Academic Success. Preferential consideration will be given to those with a doctoral degree in a related field. The qualified candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to student academic success, have extensive leadership experience in a higher education setting, have a proven history of resource advocacy, and possess excellent oral and written communication skills.

Housekeeper

Ferrum College has immediate openings in our Housekeeping Department. We are looking for a reliable, conscientious individual to perform general housekeeping duties in residential halls, office/classroom buildings, other buildings, and occasionally outside. This involves cleaning using specialized chemicals and equipment, including buffers and carpet cleaning equipment occasionally.

The individual will work in a variety of environments, both inside and outside. Must be able to occasionally lift & carry up to 75 pounds and be capable of a full range of body motions including reaching, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and walking.

Senior Manager of Retail Operations

Ferrum College Dining Services department is seeking a hardworking, professional, creative individual to manage our retail venues. Candidates must have a strong work ethic and the ability to multitask. Must be able to work independently, as well as in a team environment. Candidates must also possess strong computer skills, be familiar with Microsoft Office Software, Points of sales, and timekeeping devices. On Call Drivers

Ferrum College is accepting applications for On-call Drivers to assist in meeting the transportation needs of Ferrum College. Vehicles used will be provided by the College. Responsibilities may include transporting students on College-sponsored field trips, special events, or other off-campus opportunities; performing routine fueling and pre-trip inspection of vehicles; and recordkeeping. This position requires some overnight travel. A background check and driving check are required.

Grounds Enhancement Technician

Ferrum College has an immediate opening for a Grounds Enhancement Technician in our Physical Plant Department. Primary responsibilities include development and maintenance of campus landscaping and grounds. To include mowing lawns with riding and push mowers, using trimmers, maintain flower beds, shrubs, and plants; cleaning walkways, assisting with snow removal, and dispensing of ice melt chemicals. Horticulture experience is preferred but not required.

This is a full time, 40-hour week position. Occasional weekend and overtime work required. Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds on a regular basis and work in all types of weather. Valid driver’s license and good driving record are required.

Area Coordinator

Ferrum College has several openings for the Area Coordinator (AC) position. The AC is a live-in professional staff member who is responsible for a residential area that houses approximately 400-600 students. The AC will supervise around 8-15 undergraduate student staff members. Applicants should be mature, outgoing, enthusiastic, organized, and expect to be an active participant in campus life.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: community development, retention, RA recruitment & training, programming, education, advising, supervision of student staff, conflict mediation and resolution, policy enforcement, hiring officers for student accountability cases, on call duties, and crisis intervention and response. Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree or prior graduate and/or professional residence life experience (2-3 years). Qualified candidates should possess, at a minimum, a bachelor’s degree, previous residence life experience, and a desire to work with college students. This is a 12-month position.
