Open Positions

Maintenance Manager

Ferrum College is seeking a Maintenance Manager who will oversee maintenance and repairs of electrical, plumbing, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), carpentry, painting, keys/locks and other building systems. This person must have extensive knowledge of building systems such as plumbing, electrical, and HVAC and be able to perform repairs when needed. This position reports to the Director of Physical Plant and will work with the director to prioritize and coordinate upgrades/projects, including preventative maintenance schedules, and manage costs. A successful candidate must have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills as well as good communication skills. High school diploma or equivalent required and a minimum of five years of maintenance experience. Previous supervisory experience and professional certifications preferred.

This is a full time, 40-hour week position. Background check required.

Campus Minister

Ferrum College is accepting applications for the seasonal position of Campus Minister.  The Campus Minister coordinates religious life activities at the College, provides pastoral care to students, faculty, and staff, and serves as liaison between the College and the Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church.  The Campus Minister will report to the Dean of Students.

Primary responsibilities include:

  1. Coordinates and assesses ecumenical religious activities on campus, including activities of the religious life organizations on campus and serving as advisor to such organizations, as appropriate.
  2. Oversees ecumenical chapel services and special services of worship as needed.
  3. Works with other departments on campus to discuss students who may be at risk because of academic, emotional, or disciplinary problems and to make necessary referrals. Other members of the campus community may participate as needed.
  4. Provides opportunities for ecumenical discussion of current topics of religious or social concern, and other discussions and forums as the need arises.
  5. Provides pastoral care to the College community and assists with crisis situations that may arise.
  6. Supervises Vaughn Chapel.
  7. Serves as liaison between the College and the Virginia Annual Conference in matters that do not directly involve the President of the College.
  8. Serves as a spokesperson for programs of the College which enhance the church-relatedness of the College.
  9. Teaches up to two (2) introductory Religion courses per academic year, and may also, with the approval of the President, teach additional courses per semester
  10. Other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor

Candidates should possess the following minimum qualifications:

  1. Master’s degree in divinity, human services, or a similar area
  2. Prior experience with young adult and/or campus ministry
  3. Strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills

Other:  The work schedule of this position may vary considerably, but will include evening and weekend hours.  Averaged over a year’s time, the individual in this position will work approximately nineteen (19) hours per week.

Admissions Counselor

Ferrum College is accepting applications for the full-time position of Admissions Counselor to become part of a successful recruitment team.  Regional travel and extensive evening telephone follow-up with student applicants are required. This position reports to the Associate Dean of Admissions and Dean of Admissions.

Housekeeper

Ferrum College has an opening in our Housekeeping Department.  Housekeeping includes general housekeeping duties in residential halls, office/classroom buildings, and other buildings. This includes vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, trash removal.  Must be capable of a full range of body motions including reaching, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and walking.

This is a full time, 40-hour week position with occasional weekend and overtime work.  Must be able to work a flexible schedule.  Driver’s license and good driving record required.  Background check required.

Coordinator of Residence Life, Intramurals, & Club Sports

Ferrum College has an opening for the Coordinator of Residence Life, Intramurals, & Club Sports position. The Coordinator is a live-in professional staff member who is responsible for a residential area that houses approximately 300-400 students. This Coordinator will be responsible for growing, developing, and facilitating our Intramural and Club Sports programs on campus. The Coordinator will supervise around 10-20 undergraduate student staff members. Applicants should be mature, outgoing, enthusiastic, professional, organized, and expect to be an active participant in campus life.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: community development, retention, RA recruitment & training, referee recruitment & training, programming, education, advising, supervision of student staff, conflict mediation and resolution, policy enforcement, serving as a hearing officer for student accountability cases, on call duties, and crisis intervention and response.

Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree or prior graduate and/or professional student affairs experience (2-3 years). Qualified candidates should possess, at a minimum, a bachelor’s degree, previous student affairs experience, and a desire to work with college students. This is a 12-month position.

Compensation includes a competitive salary plus benefits, an on-campus one-bedroom furnished apartment, and a meal plan.

College Counselor
Seasonal, 9-month position

Ferrum College has an opening for a seasonal, 9-month College Counselor. Position will provide services to currently enrolled Ferrum College students and consultative services to the campus community. The Ferrum College Student Counseling Center is housed within the Office of Student Life & Engagement at Ferrum College. The Office of Student Life & Engagement consists of a multidisciplinary team including residence life, student activities, and student development.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Provides one on one counseling to Ferrum College students, assists office with outreach and educational efforts, provides group counseling as needed, and participates in relevant multidisciplinary team meetings.

Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree or prior graduate and/or professional counseling experience. Qualified candidates should possess, at a minimum, a bachelor’s degree, previous counseling experience, and a desire to work with college students. This is a 9-month, seasonal position from September to May.

Must maintain licensure (if applicable) and hold provider insurance.

On Call Drivers

Ferrum College is accepting applications for On-call Drivers to assist in meeting the transportation needs of Ferrum College. Vehicles used will be provided by the College. Responsibilities may include transporting students on College-sponsored field trips, special events, or other off-campus opportunities; performing routine fueling and pre-trip inspection of vehicles; and recordkeeping. This position requires some overnight travel. A background check and driving check are required.

Applicants must be over 21 years of age; have a current drivers license and good driving record; have the ability to drive safely in all types traffic conditions in both rural and urban settings; and must be willing to submit to post-offer and annual background checks, including Motor Vehicle Report checks. Drivers may be required to undergo drug testing initially and periodically. Drivers are required to operate vehicles in accordance with the Ferrum College Vehicle Safety Policy and other College policies as procedures, as well as applicable state and federal laws.
