Assistant Athletic Trainer

Ferrum College, an NCAA Division-III member institution and a member of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, is seeking applications for the position of Assistant Athletic Trainer. This is a full time, 9 month position with full benefits. This position will assist in providing medical services for Ferrum’s 20 varsity intercollegiate and three club sports. The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for providing assistance to the Head Athletic Trainer in the prevention, evaluation, treatment, referral, and rehabilitation of injuries and illnesses to over 500 student-athletes. Specific duties include, but are not limited to: providing daily health care of student-athletes, maintaining appropriate athletic training room operations, recording and maintaining appropriate medical records for treatment given, daily practice/competition coverage and some travel responsibilities of assigned sports (sport assignments to be determined), assisting with inventory maintenance and budget, and other miscellaneous job-related duties as deemed necessary by the Head Athletic Trainer.

Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree; BOC certification; eligible for State of Virginia Athletic Training Licensure; current Emergency Cardiac Care Certified (ECC) certification; basic computer and Microsoft Office skills. Candidates should be well-organized and capable of working both independently and as part of a team.  Effective verbal and written communications skills are essential.

Preferred qualifications: Master’s Degree; experience working in a coeducational collegiate environment; two or more years of experience as a certified athletic trainer; experience with SportsWare computer system; Additional certifications are desirable (First AID/CPR instructor, reputable strength and conditioning certification, Graston technique, FMS, etc.).

Assistant Women's Lacrosse Coach

Ferrum College seeks an Assistant Women’s Lacrosse Coach. The selected candidate will assist the head coach in the recruitment of new student-athletes, retention of current players, aid in the implementation of a practice plan and weekly game plan, work with video editing software, comply with all NCAA Division III rules as well as the Old Dominion Athletic Conference and institutional policies & procedures, and other duties assigned by the Head Coach and/or the Director of Athletics. This is a full-time position with benefits. Bachelor’s degree required. Experience playing or coaching at the collegiate level is also required.

Executive Director of Academic Success/Dean of Academic Success

Ferrum College invites applications and nominations for the position of Executive Director of Academic Success or Dean of Academic Success.  This dynamic leader will oversee and further develop the academic support services, programming, and initiatives at Ferrum College in beautiful Southwest Virginia. The campus-wide support services include:

  • The Tutoring Center provides a variety of academic resources including: peer tutoring sessions, one-on-one tutoring, and peer facilitated study groups.
  • The Ask ME First Center is committed to providing first generation college students with resources that contribute to their academic and personal success.
  • The Office of Academic Accessibility assists students with advocacy and provides support and accommodations for students who seek help and who provide appropriate documentation of a disability.
  • The Academic Progress and Evaluation Office is responsible for student advising records, assisting students with staying on-track for graduation, and planning for freshman and new transfer students by coordinating the course registration process for PAWS orientation session.
  • The Think and Learn Center provides individualized professional tutoring and academic support for freshman students enrolled in the Learning Community.
  • The Panther PRIDE Program, an academics and career preparation program for athletics, provides advising, academic support, academic resources, and the development of career focus and skills for student athletes.
  • The First-Year and Second-Year Experience Programs plan and coordinate programs to assist with student retention during years one and two.
  • The Academic Counseling Program collects data and works with students on warning and probation to assist students with returning to good academic standing.

The Executive Director of Academic Success or Dean of Academic Success will report to the Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs and serve as a member of the Academic Cabinet.  This campus leader will have opportunities to expand resources for our highly diverse student body and partner with campus offices to identify and implement new ways to support specific student populations (e.g., international, first generation, part-time, commuters, transfers, veterans, and NCAA Div. III student-athletes). We seek a visionary leader who is prepared to draw on Ferrum College’s Strategic Plan, engage with campus leaders to influence policy and procedures, and join a campus-wide effort to support our students in their pursuit of academic excellence. We seek a campus leader and colleague who embraces the mission of Ferrum College and who shares our commitment to academic excellence and holistic education.

General responsibilities include:

  • Leading the development and coordination of college-wide academic support initiatives to improve student success.
  • Developing and implementing assessment plans for the delivery of services and ensuring ongoing review and assessment of all student success and retention programs, services, and processes.
  • Working closely with campus stakeholders to request, review, analyze, and interpret a variety of data and information needed for reporting, planning, and decision-making related to student success and retention.
  • Participating in the hiring and evaluation of all staff reporting to this position, and supporting their ongoing professional development.
  • Building and strengthening relationships with key campus stakeholders, including faculty.
  • Remaining abreast of current national trends, research, and practices related to student success, retention, and engaged learning.

Qualifications and Application
Candidates must possess a minimum of a master’s level degree and five years of related professional experience.  Candidates that possess a doctorate in a related field will be eligible for the title Dean of Academic Success. Preferential consideration will be given to those with a doctoral degree in a related field. The qualified candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to student academic success, have extensive leadership experience in a higher education setting, have a proven history of resource advocacy, and possess excellent oral and written communication skills.

Housekeeper

Ferrum College has immediate openings in our Housekeeping Department. We are looking for a reliable, conscientious individual to perform general housekeeping duties in residential halls, office/classroom buildings, other buildings, and occasionally outside. This involves cleaning using specialized chemicals and equipment, including buffers and carpet cleaning equipment occasionally.

The individual will work in a variety of environments, both inside and outside. Must be able to occasionally lift & carry up to 75 pounds and be capable of a full range of body motions including reaching, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and walking.

This is a full time, 40-hour week position with occasional weekend and overtime work. Must be able to work a flexible schedule. Driver’s license and good driving record required. Background check required.

On Call Drivers

(Ongoing/recurring seasonal status)

Ferrum College is accepting applications for On-call Drivers to assist in meeting the transportation needs of Ferrum College. Vehicles used will be provided by the College. Responsibilities may include transporting students on College-sponsored field trips, special events, or other off-campus opportunities; performing routine fueling and pre-trip inspection of vehicles; and recordkeeping. This position requires some overnight travel. A background check and driving check are required.

Applicants must be over 21 years of age; have a current drivers license and good driving record; have the ability to drive safely in all types traffic conditions in both rural and urban settings; and must be willing to submit to post-offer and annual background checks, including Motor Vehicle Report checks. Drivers may be required to undergo drug testing initially and periodically. Drivers are required to operate vehicles in accordance with the Ferrum College Vehicle Safety Policy and other College policies as procedures, as well as applicable state and federal laws.

Area Coordinator

Ferrum College has several openings for the Area Coordinator (AC) position. The AC is a live-in professional staff member who is responsible for a residential area that houses approximately 400-600 students. The AC will supervise around 8-15 undergraduate student staff members. Applicants should be mature, outgoing, enthusiastic, organized, and expect to be an active participant in campus life.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: community development, retention, RA recruitment & training, programming, education, advising, supervision of student staff, conflict mediation and resolution, policy enforcement, hiring officers for student accountability cases, on call duties, and crisis intervention and response. Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree or prior graduate and/or professional residence life experience (2-3 years). Qualified candidates should possess, at a minimum, a bachelor’s degree, previous residence life experience, and a desire to work with college students. This is a 12-month position.

Ferrum College has an immediate opening for a dependable and conscientious Dining Services Technician to perform a variety of tasks including serving food, washing dishes, and maintaining the dining hall.  Excellent customer service skills are required.  Prior experience in food service preferred

Food Production Technician (10 month position)

Ferrum College has an immediate opening for a dependable and conscientious Food Production Technician-Cook to perform a variety of tasks including preparing/cooking breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals and comply with menu requirements.  Knife skills, Serv-Safe certification and high volume cooking experience preferred.  This is a fast paced position. Successful candidate must be able to assume other positions, within Dining Services, quickly and efficiently when needed.  Must have the ability to work in a team oriented spirit.

Pizza Venue Shift Supervisor

Ferrum College is seeking an outgoing, reliable, and responsible person to supervise the Pizza Venue and student employee staff in the daily operations and food production for the pizza venue. This position requires a professional attitude and the ability to promote and work in a team environment. Responsibilities include ensuring timely preparation and presentation of food items, ability to operate cash register, assist in training all employees on dining tasks and directives, ensuring excellent customer service.
