Director of Athletics

Ferrum College seeks qualified, highly motivated candidates for the position of Director of Athletics. This position reports directly to the President of the College and works closely with members of the President’s Cabinet — Provost, Enrollment, Finance, and Institutional Advancement.

The Director of Athletics oversees all NCAA Division III intercollegiate sports and sets athletics policies and procedures for the College, under the broad direction of the President, in full compliance with guidelines of the NCAA and of the Old Dominion Athletics Conference (ODAC). In addition to overseeing all day-to-day operations of the Ferrum College Athletics Department, and developing and managing the Athletics Department budget, the Director of Athletics will work collaboratively with the Office of Institutional Advancement and the Office of Marketing and Communication, respectively, to coordinate fundraising efforts for Ferrum College athletics and to help ensure visual brand consistency and enhance the College’s public image.

The successful candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree and at least five years of prior athletics administrative/managerial and coaching experience, have excellent planning, organizational, budgeting, and leadership skills, and demonstrate superb interpersonal skills, reflecting the ability to establish and maintain rapport with students, parents, the coaching staff, other direct reports, faculty and staff members, other campus administrators, and all external constituencies (alumni, Board members, donors, other athletics directors, and the local community). The successful candidate must be able to meet deadlines, work skillfully under pressure, solve problems, make decisions, and be a positive, collaborative leader.

Preferred qualifications include: a master’s degree in sports management, business, health and human performance, organizational leadership, educational administration, or a closely related field; completed coursework in finance and budgeting; prior experience in fund raising; and more than five years of athletics administrative and coaching experience.

Associate Director of Annual Giving

Ferrum College seeks a skilled fundraising professional for the position of Associate Director of Annual Giving.

Reporting to the Director of Development, the Associate Director of Annual Giving is responsible for the creation, execution, and oversight of a comprehensive annual giving program at Ferrum College. In managing annual fundraising efforts, the Associate Director of Annual Giving will work to increase the percentage of alumni participation, retention, reactivation, and renewal of gifts, with emphasis on leadership giving and gifts to Ferrum’s annual fund.

The Associate Director will develop and manage a robust giving program covering both the cultivation and stewardship of Ferrum College’s annual donors. In addition to administering a direct mail strategy, email solicitations, Giving Day campaigns, and Phone-a-thon efforts, the Associate Director should possess an entrepreneurial spirit to think creatively on new annual giving strategies that would advance the priorities and goals of the College.

1. Under the direction of the Director of Development, lead the College’s efforts in all aspects of the gift cycle including donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, closures, stewardship, and reporting.
2. Focus on building relationships through one-on-one visits and ongoing communication with current and prospective donors, alumni, students, and corporate partners to develop giving strategies, design proposals, and solicit and close upper-tier annual gifts.
3. Work with Director of Development to develop a Parent Giving program aimed at identifying and securing principal, major and annual leadership gifts from parents of students.
4. Create and execute a Ferrum Fund strategy to encourage increased giving in support of the annual operating budget.
5. Prepare annual budgets required to fund realistic, consistent and measurable fundraising programs.
6. Assist with major gifts, corporate, and foundation funding opportunities in collaboration with the VPIA and others
7. Achieve measurable fundraising goals as determined by the VPIA and Director of Development regarding face-to-face visits, digital engagement/solicitations, and annual giving amounts.
8. Deepen Ferrum’s partnerships and engagement efforts in key markets: Roanoke, Martinsville, Richmond, Tidewater, DC Metro, Lynchburg.
9. Develop, maintain and coordinate with the business office procedures for administering, accounting, reporting and other internal management operations for annual giving.

Minimum Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s Degree
2. 3 + years of successful experience in fundraising, sales, business development, or related experience, preferably in higher education
3. Proficiency in organizational, managerial, and fundraising communications
4. Excellent interpersonal, relationship building, and solicitation skills
5. Excellent verbal and communication skills including professional writing and face-to-face engagement
6. Proven self-starter capable of independent work and a willingness to innovate
7. Interest in all aspects of higher education with a dedication to promoting the College’s institutional and fundraising priorities
8. Ability and willingness to travel independently required.
9. Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends when needed.
10. Experience with cold calling or sales.

Preferred Qualifications:
1. Knowledge of CRM software and data management
2. 7+ years of advancement experience with demonstrated success in closing substantial “asks.”

Coordinator of Intramurals and Club Sports

Ferrum College is accepting applications for the position of Coordinator of Intramural and Club Sports. This position will be responsible for leading, organizing, supervising and evaluating all Intramural and club sports programs. The incumbent will also develop and maintain mechanisms to track the effect of both Intramurals and Club Sports programs based on student satisfaction, retention, and sportsmanship. The Coordinator will collaborate with the Director of Student Activities, the Dean of Campus Diversity, Wellness and Student Leadership and other campus areas to promote participation, cooperation and communication.

Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor Degree or the equivalent in experience
• Knowledge and experience in the areas of recreational sports
officiating and programming
• CPS/AED/First Aid certification
• Highly organized and self-starting individual
• Ability to work effectively and professionally with students
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
• Good oral and written communication skills

This is a full time, 40-hour week position with frequent evening and some weekend work. Must be able to work a flexible schedule. A background check is required.

On Call Drivers

(Ongoing/recurring seasonal status)

Ferrum College is accepting applications for On-call Drivers to assist in meeting the transportation needs of Ferrum College. Vehicles used will be provided by the College. Responsibilities may include transporting students on College-sponsored field trips, special events, or other off-campus opportunities; performing routine fueling and pre-trip inspection of vehicles; and recordkeeping. This position requires some overnight travel. A background check and driving check are required.

Applicants must be over 21 years of age; have a current drivers license and good driving record; have the ability to drive safely in all types traffic conditions in both rural and urban settings; and must be willing to submit to post-offer and annual background checks, including Motor Vehicle Report checks. Drivers may be required to undergo drug testing initially and periodically. Drivers are required to operate vehicles in accordance with the Ferrum College Vehicle Safety Policy and other College policies as procedures, as well as applicable state and federal laws.
