One of the most fulfilling ways to experience college life is to participate
in Student Government, campus committees, intercollegiate athletics,
or in one of the many clubs and organizations offered. All students
are urged to get involved and make the most of the opportunities already
here.

can become an active part of the College community by participating
in any of the more than 50 clubs and organizations. Membership in a
campus organization enriches the educational experience, improves leadership
ability, enhances academic achievement, increases career success and
develops social skills. If you would like to join one
of these groups, simply contact the student leader or faculty/staff
advisor listed below or stop by the Student Leadership and Engagement
Office for more information.

GROUPS
Accounting
Club —Open to all students interesting in Accounting, this
is a new organization at Ferrum College. Contact Dr.

Agriculture Club—Open to all students interested in
agriculture, this group sponsors events each year including a number
of field trips. Contact Dr. George

Art Club— Open to all students with an interest in
the arts. Activities include on-campus art related programs and events
and off-campus gallery and museum trips. Contact Assistant Professor Nancy

English Club—An organization of students, faculty,
and staff interested in literature and communication. Members go to
area events of interest and sponsor a book collection project and an
Amnesty International group, among other activities. Contact Dr.

Passport – From its inception in 1992, The Passport
has been used to demonstrate a meaningful commitment of our students
to active learning. The students involved with this publication
were expected to assume the challenge and responsibility to address,
evaluate, and shape their learning experience at Ferrum. The
Passport, therefore, came to represent our understanding of a liberal
education that invites reasoned discourse and a culture of learning
in which students participate in their own intellectual growth. Contact Dr.

Pre-Med Club —Open to all students interested in the
medical field, this group is new to the campus. Contact Dr.

Recreation Club—For students of any major interested
in outdoor adventure programs and activities. This club sponsors numerous
recreation activities and assists members in attending professional
conferences and workshops, organizing and planning their own outings,
and has numerous resources available both in the form of information
and equipment. Members also serve as a resource for assisting Dan Caston
at Ferrum Outdoors (link to Ferrum Outdoors website) programs. Contact Mr.

Russian Club—Welcomes interest and membership from
any Ferrum College students. The club attends performances highlighting
Russian art, song, dance, culture, and speakers. Club members also
become familiar with traditional Russian songs and dances, Russian
arts and crafts, present performances, and hold workshops on these

Sigma Psi Delta—Society for Psychology and Development.
This group provides educational and service experiences for people
interested in psychology and human development. Contact Dr.

Social Work Club—An active social and volunteer service
organization designed to facilitate camaraderie and dedication to community.
Social Work majors and all interested students are encouraged to join.
Traditionally, elections are held early in the fall semester. Contact

Students Engaged in Political Action and Community (SEPAC)—A
dynamic, educational, experiential, and service learning group open
to Political Science majors and other interested students, faculty,
and staff. This group is committed to active citizenship by promoting
politics, community building, and outreach programs. Contact Dr.

Students In Free Enterprise—Students In Free Enterprise
offers student the opportunity to develop leadership, teamwork and
communication skills through learning, practicing and teaching the
principles of free enterprise. SIFE Teams each important concepts through
educational outreach projects, including market economics, entrepreneurship,
personal and financial success, and business ethics to better themselves

Student Virginia Education Association—Gives pre-service
teachers opportunities for professional involvement with other students
and practicing teachers to advance the understanding and practice of

CAMPUS MEDIA
Chrysalis--A literary and graphic arts magazine produced
by students using desktop publishing programs including PageMaker and
Photoshop. Chrysalis sponsors monthly coffeehouses for students, faculty,
and staff to perform poetry and music. Students who enjoy creating
poetry, short stories, photography, or artwork should contact Dr.

Iron Blade—The student-run newspaper gives students
practical experience in all aspects of newspaper journalism, including
digital photography and desktop publishing. Academic credit available,
and editors get stipends. Contact Dr.

Ferrumradio.com—This web cast station broadcasts daily from its Franklin
Hall studio and is managed and staffed by students. Membership is by interview

Alpha Chi—Is a National honor scholarship society
for juniors and seniors. Membership by invitation. Contact Dr.

Alpha Delta Mu—Is a National honor society for undergraduate
Social Work majors who qualify academically. Membership by invitation
in April. Contact Professor Jennie

Alpha Mu Gamma—Is a national honor society for Foreign
Languages. The society serves to recognize outstanding achievement
in foreign language study and is represented on campus by the Gamma
Omicron chapter. Membership by invitation. Contact Dr.

Kappa Pi International—This is an international Art
Honor Society. The purpose of this organization is to raise the standards
of productive artistic work among students in colleges and universities.

Lambda Sigma—Is a national honor society for sophomores,
which promotes educational experiences through service projects. Students
are selected spring semester of their freshman year. Contact Ms.

Phi Alpha Theta—Is an international honor society

Psi Chi—Is a national honor society in Psychology.
Pre-professional experiences and service opportunities for outstanding

PERFORMING
ARTS
Classical Ensemble—Prepares classical and chamber
music for performances on and off campus. All students with instrumental
experience are encouraged to participate. Develope your musicality,
learn new material, show off your talent and earn college credit. Open

Concert Choir —A large mixed chorus that performs
choral literature from all periods of music history both on and off
campus. Among the highlights of the year are the annual Christmas concert
and a spring tour throughout Virginia and adjoining states. Contact Ms.

The Collegiates —An auditioned, 12-member, mixed ensemble
and swing choir that performs a varied musical repertoire of sacred,
spiritual, show tunes, and contemporary music for churches, high schools,
and civic groups throughout Virginia. Contact Ms.

The Gospel Choir – Brings you songs of joy to uplift
your spirit. All students are encouraged to participate and lift
their voices through song. Open to all students, faculty, and

Handbells —Presents sacred handbell music, as well
as easy listeningcontemporary music with performances on and off campus.

The Jack Tale Players —A touring children's theater
company based upon the folklore and music of the Southern Virginia
Highlands. Performs throughout Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic region.

Jazz Ensemble—Developes jazz music for performances
on and off campus. All students with instrumental experiences are encouraged
to participate, have fun, performing, and earn college credit at the
same time. This group enjoys playing at various venues, showing off
their talent, and representing Ferrum College. Open to all students

Pep Band —A fun, energetic group that performs at Ferrum College

RELIGIOUS
GROUPS
Catholic Campus Ministry—Ministers to the needs of
the Roman Catholic community on campus. The adviser is available for
pastoral counseling, marriage and other sacrament preparation, and
sponsors activities with the Chaplains office and other religious groups.

Ferrum Christian Fellowship -- FCF is a non-denominational
organization open to all students. Our goal is to reach out to the
community to help those who are struggling in faith, school, and personal
affairs with our prayers, presence, gifts, and service. Ferrum FCF
hosts numerous weekly activities, including Bible studies, Monday Night
Praise (in association with the Chaplain and Rescue Mission), and many

Admissions Ambassadors—Student Volunteers who assist
in new student recruitment by providing tours to prospective students,
helping with Open House events, and occasionally hosting overnight

African-American Student Association—Seeks to serve
the community by promoting unity and cultural awareness among students,

Alpha Phi Omega—This is a national coeducational service
fraternity that is based on the principles of leadership, friendship,
and service to humanity and is open to all students. Originally formed
in the 1970’s, the APO was rechartered again in 2001. This group sponsors
blood drives, movie night, dances, and assists in community service

Appropriations ad Finance Committee—This SGA committee
formulated the SGA budget and allocates funds to clubs and organizations.
Chaired by the SGA Treasurer, this committee presents the official
SGA budget to SGA Senate for approval. Contact Mr.

BACCHUS—(Boosting Alcohol Consciousness Concerning
the Health of University Students) Encourages responsible
decisions about drinking within the campus community and increases
awareness concerning healthy alternatives to alcohol use and abuse
through programs and activities such as National Collegiate Alcohol

Big Buddy/Little Buddy—An exciting way for students
to have a fun time with kids, be a role model, and to give back to
the community. This organization pairs students with at-risk youth
for monthly activities. Contact Dr.

Colleges Against Cancer (CAC)—Open to all students,
this group works in conjunction with the American Cancer Society. This
group helps in organization of the annual Relay for Life. Contact Mr.

Commuter Student Association—Addresses the special
concerns of commuter students. Contact Mr.

Criminal Justice Club–The purpose of this organization
is to aid and encourage the expansion of higher education and provide
a unified voice for students of criminal justice in all matters of

Environmental Action Coalition—Promotes environmental
awareness through activities such as recycling, hiking, speakers, and
special events. Contact Dr. David

Femphasis—An organization open to all students, faculty,
and staff who see the need for women to be empowered to define themselves
in our society. Regular meetings and potlucks give members an opportunity

Ferrum College Traditional Karate Club—The Ferrum
College Traditional Karate Club is a non-competitive group open to
all students, staff and faculty members. Training consists of a survey
of the methodologies of Okinawan and Japanese karate (primarily Goju
Ryu and Shotokan) with the goal of developing the necessary abilities
to manage close range conflict, consisting of striking, joint locks,
throwing and grappling. An understanding of the history, philosophy
and development of the art is pursued through readings, discussions,
written responses and exploratory components, as well presentations
and special training by credentialed guest instructors on the topics
of the classical martial arts for the benefit of club members and the
Ferrum College community. The club is affiliated with the Traditional
Karate Research Institute of VA and the Seijinkai Karate-do Association.

Ferrum Dance Team—Our goal is to help elevate school
pride through dance at athletic events and other social events on and

Ferrum Step Team – To formally represent Ferrum College
with pride, by creative stepping with combinations of stumps, claps,
body language and dance/step transition moves while delivering a message

Ferrum Greek Council—A council to oversee guide and
join together the fraternities and sororities of Ferrum College in
order to enforce policies as mutually agreed upon by all organizations.
The council is established as a governing body of these organizations.

Kappa Alpha Sigma—Open to all Ferrum College female
students. Our goal is to improve ourselves, our community, our school,
and our student body through educational, recreational, and cultural

Panther Productions—Your ticket to campus entertainment.
This club selects and produces concerts, dances, movies, comedians,
and other special events. Volunteers learn the ins and outs of campus
programming and publicity techniques, and develop strong leadership

Sigma Alpha Kappa—Open to all male Ferrum College
students. The purpose of the organization is to provide an added service
experience, while contributing to the social aspect of our school and
community to following our credo of honor, loyalty, prestige, and sophistication.

Spectrum—An organization for Ferrum students, faculty,
and staff who are interested in issues related to sexual orientation
and diversity. The group often sponsors programs on campus to promote
discussion of the education about these issues. Contact Dr.

Student Activities Committee—A student advisory board
that surveys students to identify their interests with respect to all
forms of campus activities. They also sponsor campus forums to discuss

Student Government Association (SGA)—Consist of all
students enrolled at Ferrum College. The purpose of the SGA is “to
promote the general welfare of the students; to encourage personal
responsibility, loyalty, and a high sense of honor, and to further
the principles upon which our college was founded and continues to
operate.” We are always looking for students to serve as SGA senators
and on the Senate committees. The Senate, as well as Senate committees,
serve as the student voice with regards to campus issues. Contact Mr.

SGA Senate—Made up of students representing both the
commuter and residential populations, this group establishes legislation
regarding student concerns, approves the SGA budget, facilitates the

Theta Chi Epsilon—Open to all male students at Ferrum
College, the purpose of OXE is to promote the spiritual, social, intellectual
and moral welfare of its members, to encourage honorable achievements
in every field of human endeavor, to inspire service in the public
interest through community service, and to unite college men of culture,

Theta Gamma Omega—Open to all female students at Ferrum
College, the newest sorority on campus welcomes all females to unite

Wildlife Club – Open to all students who have an interest
in the outdoors. The Wildlife Club has traditional events such
as barbeques and fishing tournaments. Contact Dr.

Zeta Theta Epsilon—Open to all female students, the
purpose of ZOE is to promote the spiritual, social, intellectual, and
moral welfare of its members, to encourage honorable achievements in
every field of human endeavor, to inspire service, and to unite college

Freshman Class Officers—Each September, members
of the class elect officers who plan events for their class Contact Student

Sophomore Class Officers—Each spring, members
of the class elects officers who plan class related events during

Junior Class Officers—Each spring, members of
the class elect officers who plan class related events during the

Senior Class Officers—Each spring, members of
the class elect officers who plan class-related events for the
following year including a semiformal dinner dance at the end of
the year. The officers work closely with the Alumni Office in selecting
an appropriate class gift to be presented during commencement.

Orientation Team —The "O" Team is one
of the most popular groups on campus. Orientation team leaders
work together to help new students feel comfortable and at home

Residence Hall Association (RHA)—Is
a campus wide organization established to promote communication
between residence halls and to develop a sense of unity and cooperative
spirit. Students can become a Community Advisor as well and help
to maintain order and program in the residence halls. Contact Mr.

Intrumural Activities
Student Leadership & Engagement offers a variety of
intramural activities and makes available general recreation equipment
for all students. Registration forms for all intramural activities
are available in the Intramural Office and on the intramural bulletin
board in the Franklin Hall Student Center, lower level. Rules for
each intramural activity are provided on the entry forms. Contact
