Ferrum Outdoors engages the campus community in unique activities which enhance the
college experience and provides opportunities for personal skill and leadership development.
In addition, participation in the program increases the participants’ overall appreciation
of the outdoors and develops life-long outdoor adventure pursuits.
We are the outdoors connection for students, faculty and staff plus an on campus guiding
service, equipment rental and adventure source. Our trips are led by experienced
faculty, staff and student leaders. The programs emphasize safety, learning and fun.
All activities are designed with an educational component to teach the skills and
techniques found in the different disciplines that we offer.
Ferrum Outdoors also works closely with Recreation Leadership students to help hone
and develop their outdoor leadership skills by organizing and leading adventure programs
for the campus community under the direction the Adventure Programmer and Coordinator.
Registration for Fall Semester Activities begins Monday September 1, 2014

Recreation Leadership Major
The Recreation Leadership Major prepares the student for a variety of recreation settings including local, state
and federal agencies, non-profit organizations, recreation services, natural and historic
interpretation agencies, as well as commercial enterprises. The major is also offered
as a minor for those students pursuing other majors. Two minors, Ecotourism and Outdoor Recreation, complement the major.
