Norton Center

Former Ferrum College football coach Hank Norton led Ferrum to four consecutive NCAA Division III playoff appearances from 1987-90, including national semifinal apearances in 1988 and 1989. As Director of Athletics, Norton guided the College’s athletic program through the transition in 1985-86 from the junior college ranks to NCAA Div. III competition . Norton was instrumental with Ferrum’s application and eventual membership into the Dixie Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, today known as the USA South Athletic Conference.

Norton earned numerous honors over his 34-year career as Ferrum’s head football coach. He is a member of four Halls of Fame and has been decorated as National Coach of the Year four times; National Junior College Coach of the Year in 1965, 1968 and 1974, as well as NCAA Division III Coach of the Year in 1998.
