SASHA SAARI initiated Ferrum College's Russian Program in 1980.  Ferrum College now not only offers a major in Russian, but has a unique relationship with the Pskov Pedagogical Institute in Pskov, Russia.  This program, which grew out of the Sister City relationship between Pskov, Russia and Roanoke, Virginia, brings a student from Pskov to Ferrum College every semester and in return offers Ferrum students study and internship opportunities in Pskov.
