Dr. Susan Virginia Mead is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Ferrum College. She received her B.A. in Sociology and Art from Agnes Scott College, and her M.S. and PH.D. from Virginia Tech. She has taught at three Virginia institutions of higher education and has held professional and volunteer positions in regional, local, and state-wide human services, arts, and religious organizations. Her most constant area of interest has been teaching and learning about oppression perpetrated by the powerful and the resiliency of those who are oppressed. Susan is a native of Lexington, Virginia and currently lives in Floyd County, Virginia with her two children, Morgan Holliday Mead and Mellea Holliday Mead, 
and their father, Carl Holliday.
