ยป COMMUNITY PARTNERS & SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES

PROJECTS

FERRUM.EDU

THE FERRUM COLLEGE DEFINITION OF SERVICE LEARNING
Service Learning Requires:

  • A collaboration between the college and one or more communities.
  • Projects meet community-defined needs.
  • It may be integrated into the academic curriculum (course-based, credit bearing) or may be implemented as a co-curricular activity.
  • In either case, service learning requires time for reflection (critical thinking, writing or talking) about the experience.
  • Ideally, service learning enriches classroom knowledge and skills, develops a sense of caring for others, and develops civic responsibility.
