I am really enjoying my experience as a student at Ferrum College. When I was looking for a school to attend, I took into consideration many different things. Among these factors I took into account were class size, student and professor relationships, and the opportunities available. These factors have made my freshman year in college an enjoyable and successful one.

Class size has always been important, especially since I graduated from a small high school. A student has the opportunity to actively participate in class. At a larger institution, students are seen more as a number rather than as an individual. The individual attention I have been given in class in regards to learning and comprehending the material has been priceless.

The extra attention that students are given by professors is wonderful. I always imagined college as a place where grumpy old professors would be very strict and have a non-caring attitude towards their students. I never imagined that a professor would have his class over for a cookout to get to know and associate with his students or allow students to call his or her house for help on the material covered in class lectures or the text. Ferrum College is allowing me to experience beneficial student-professor relationship in and out of the classroom.

Opportunities that are available at Ferrum College have really helped my social and educational life. I have been involved in many clubs at Ferrum College. I served as the Freshman President and I am now the newly elected Vice President of Student Activities. In larger institutions, the chances of being in leadership roles are limited. I believe that every successful college student has to be involved with some type of club or group, which Ferrum College more than allows for.

The friends I have made and the people I have met are also benefits which have made my first year an enjoyable one. Ferrum College has been a learning and growing experience which has allowed myself to grow and develop into a well-rounded young man. As my freshman year comes to a close, I can clearly see that I have made the correct choice of which school to attend.
