Smokey Mountain National Park Over
fall break Ferrum Outdoors took several students to enjoy the splendor
of The Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It is recognized by the
United Nations as an international biosphere and annually has more visitors
(9 million) than any other park in the United States. International
students Yun Zhu from China and Miranda Havlin from Ireland had a wonderful
time. Yun enjoyed her first ever-camping experience. Roasting marshmallows
and the beauty of the mountains were two of her favorite things about
the experience. Miranda has been involved with the Scouts in Ireland,
so she was an old pro at camping. One of her favorite things was learning
more about the geography of the Smoky Mountains as she is studying to
teach geography back in Ireland. Barak Brashear is a student leader
in the Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management Program at Ferrum College.
Barak helped plan and organize the trip to the Smoky Mountains. Last
year he came to Ferrum Outdoors with the idea for this trip. This year,
working on his internship he was able to implement the idea.
If you have ideas for programs that Ferrum Outdoors may be able to offer then contact Rich Long at rlong@ferrum.edu or call 540-365-4442. |
