Dr. Kimberly Suress Gaiters-Fields is the Dean of Academic Affairs at Ferrum College. Prior to this appointment, she served as the Assistant to the VP of Academic Affairs for Academic and Faculty Services. Before joining Ferrum, Dr. Gaiters-Fields served 16 years as Dean, Teacher Education Chair, and Faculty in the College of Education at Albany State University (ASU) in Southwest, Georgia. She also spent six years teaching English and Special Education in the public school systems of Terrell County and Dougherty County. In all capacities, Dr. Gaiters-Fields embraced opportunities to assist pre-service and in-service teachers, higher-education faculty members, and practicing P-12 staff and administrators evaluate strategies, curriculum, assessments and data and make continuous program improvements to ensure achievement for all students.
Dr. Gaiters-Fields’ research explores access to postsecondary education and the incorporation of evidence-based strategies to increase the overall success of diverse populations. Her administrative philosophy takes into account the need to appreciate the history of an institution; assess present opportunities and risks; and commit to the collaborative development of a strategic vision consistent with the mission of the larger organization, as well as priorities of individual entities.
Dr. Gaiters-Fields received her EdD (Curriculum Studies) from Georgia Southern University, and her EdS (Educational Leadership), MEd (Special Education), and BA (English) from ASU. She has served the community as a member of various boards, task force initiatives, consortia, and accreditation teams. She has also received numerous teaching and leadership awards for her commitment to advancing education and equity. Dr. Gaiters-Fields is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and Saint Teresa’s Catholic Church. She has four children: Chasen, Kelsey, Kensley and Jasmyn.
