Welcome to the Office of the Provost!

It is truly a year full of possibilities!

Dr. Aimé Sposato, ProvostIt is my distinct pleasure to welcome you to a campus brimming with Panther Pride, full of collaboration and compassion for others, demonstrating an ongoing commitment to societal needs, and the determination to strive for excellence in all that we do.  We celebrate our rich, cultural heritage by connecting students to academic and co-curricular experiences in our great community in Southwest Virginia.  Students explore the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, lakes, rivers and small towns that are brimming with regional heritage all around our campus. Our students interact with a world-class group of scholars and staff that make Ferrum College a dynamic place to live, work, and learn.  This is the Ferrum Experience!

Ferrum College boasts over 30 distinct undergraduate programs and 41 minors which connect students beyond the classroom and across the world.  Our students engage with an outstanding group of caring faculty and staff working in three different schools, Arts and Humanities, Natural Sciences and Mathematics, and Social Sciences and Professional Studies.  Programs in these three schools prepare a wonderful diversity of students for a wide variety of professions and careers—and more importantly, Ferrum’s curriculum actively prepares students for challenges of the ever-changing world.

As Provost, my goal is to enhance the efforts of the faculty through support of excellence in teaching, professional development and scholarship, and meaningful service to the University.  The Provost also partners with the academic deans and the faculty to make sure all the parts of the academic engine keep running smoothly so that the College can move forward in its central mission of teaching and learning.  Keeping the student experience at the center of our work, the Provost is privileged to think in a visionary way about the College, to support its efforts of always reaching towards new boundaries of academic knowledge and student services.  I am committed to ensuring a holistic approach to intellectual and personal growth that encourages active engagement across academic disciplines and within all aspects of campus life.

An institution of our size allows Ferrum students to work alongside the faculty in the classroom, conducting research, engaging in theatrical experiences, or honing their team building skills on the athletic fields.  Our faculty chose a career at an institution like Ferrum because of their love of teaching, the ability to share their passion for their discipline with students, and the chance to provide the personalized attention to our students.  They serve as mentors to some of the brightest and academically courageous students in the nation.

We live each day guided by our Ferrum College motto, “Not Self, but Others.”  You cannot help but to be transformed by the spirit of this dynamic community.  Anything is possible!  I look forward to seeing you on campus.

Warmly,

Aimé Sposato, Provost
