A Message from Alumni Board President Joel L. Wilson, '81

Football game from Ferrum history Dear Ferrum Alumni:

Reflect on the difference that Ferrum College made in your life. Perhaps it was a faculty member or a respected coach who took the time to care about you, gave you self confidence, and taught you lessons that have carried you through your professional life. Maybe Ferrum gave you an opportunity to earn a degree, propelling you to even greater achievements when other institutions wouldn’t give you that chance. Perhaps you appreciate the scholarships funded by other alumni and friends who helped you finance your education when you needed the most help. We all have our reasons for loving Ferrum and for appreciating the foundations it gave us.

Now we have an important opportunity to make a difference for the future of our College and for future generations of Ferrum students. Over the past five years, Ferrum has made significant investments in campus infrastructure and development. Transformation in new residence halls, the student center and other major renovations has translated into record growth in our student population. New students are seeing the great value in our alma mater, and the growth is phenomenal. There is one facility in the College Master Plan that is yet to be completed, but its impact will be significant. We need to build the Hank Norton Center, and we need every alumnus of Ferrum to help make this happen.

The Alumni Board of Directors is so passionate about the need to construct the Norton Center that at our Fall Board meeting we voted unanimously to make this project a priority of the Alumni Association and strongly advocate that all alumni assist us in our effort to fund this facility. The Hank Norton Center is an investment in student recruitment and retention, and it keeps us at a competitive advantage against the other private colleges with whom we compete for students.

As you plan your giving for the year, I urge you to consider making the Norton Center, and Ferrum, a priority. As alumni, we can be extremely proud of the great things happening at Ferrum and we need your help to make sure that our growth and progress continue at an exciting rate. Others helped pave the way for us in making gifts to Ferrum to impact our education while we were students, and I ask that you help the current and future generations of Ferrum students by paying it forward to help make their Ferrum experience even better. Thank you for the contributions you make to better our College, and on behalf of the Alumni Board of Directors we appreciate your help.

Sincerely,
Joel L. Wilson '81
