Our Student Athletes Deserve the Very Best

A message from Abe Naff, Director of Athletics

Ferrum College has a tradition of athletic excellence. Our intercollegiate teams have long been known as winners, establishing records and championships at the conference, regional and national levels. Year after year our athletic heritage attracts a large number of student athletes. In fact, more than one third of our student enrollment is student athletes.

In the past our athletic facilities were the envy of our opponents. Today however, this is not the case. Our current Norton Field House is insufficient both in terms of usefulness and appearance. The college is overdue to make the improvements needed to keep us competitive with our Division III opponents. all of whom have either enhanced or are in the process of enhancing their athletic facilities.

We need a new Hank Norton Center, a multipurpose, one stop sport facility that will house Baseball, Softball, Men's & Women's Soccer, Women's Lacrosse and Football. A new Hank Norton Center would have first class locker rooms, a state of the art athletic training room, team room, weight room and laundry room. The new athletic training room will significantly expand the support service capabilities of our talented and dedicated athletic trainers. The new team room would be used for team meetings and academic support. Every student athlete at Ferrum College will benefit from the new weight room facilities and the enhanced sports medicine facilities in our training room. Our coaching staff along with their administrative support will be housed on the second floor insuring available supervision for athletes utilizing the Center.

A new Hank Norton Center continues Ferrum's history of quality athletic facilities. A new Hank Norton Center is extremely important from enrollment and retention perspectives. A new Hank Norton Center not only will enhance the quality of life of our student athletes and coaches but also the quality of the Ferrum experience in general.
