Islam and Muslim Political Theory
Dr. John Alden Williams

     Ferrum College's Dr. John Alden Williams, the Forrest S. and Jean B. Williams [NO RELATION] National Endowment for the Humanities Distinguished Teaching Professor in the Humanities, serves as a resource on Islam, Muslim political theory, language translation, and so forth for a number of outlets.

     Dr. Williams is the author of the books Islam, Themes of Islamic Civilization, and The Word of Islam, among many others. He is currently working on A History of Muslim Political Theory and Laws of Muslin Women, A Sufi Handbook. He has been a Senior Research Fellow at the Harvard Center for Middle Eastern Studies and Harvard Center for Study of World Religion. He has produced a number of articles for encyclopedias, journals, and textbooks. 

     Dr. Williams conducted his graduate work at Princeton University in Middle Eastern History and Languages. He lived, worked, and studied in the Islamic world for more than 16 years and is fluent in Arabic.

Financial and Economic Fallout
Dr. Demetri Tsanacas

     Dr. Demetri Tsanacas, professor of business at Ferrum College (VA) and a Sam A. Walton Free Enterprise Fellow, is a leading experts on U.S. banking, money issues, and trade. He has been extensively quoted and referenced in a multitude of wire services, regional and national newspapers, periodicals, and broadcast media. He has strong opinions and specific predictions on how the events of September 11, 2001, will affect the market and consumer confidence in the short and long-term.

     Dr. Tsanacas' current research includes dollar valuation and U.S. commercial policy, exchange rate fluctuation and export performance, the impact of financial innovation of the performance of depository intermediaries, and Japanese economic adjustments. He established the Newsletter of Trends in Business and Finance.  Dr. Tsanacas teaches undergraduate courses in Economics, Finance, and Business Policy. He created his own course in International Finance, Government and Business.

     Dr. Tsanacas conducted his graduate work at NYU's School of Business and Rutgers University. He is a resident of Ferrum, VA, and New Jersey.

Combat Training/Military Preparedness
Col. Earl G. "Bud" Skeens, Jr.

     As a current executive committee member and advisor to the E.S.G.R. of the Department of Defense, an renown expert on military affairs, and assistant professor of history/ international studies at Ferrum College (VA), Col. Earl G. "Bud" Skeens, Jr., draws upon his years on the forefront of military service and study to educate both top level government officials and average citizens about the U.S. military. He has been a source for venues ranging from the Pentagon to the History Channel.

     Col. Skeens is highly regarded as an expert on combat training/military preparedness, international military affairs, military history, the Civil War, and Roman armies. He also has spent more than 30 years as an instructor for the Virginia State Police Academy. Since September 11, 2001, he has been assisting with operations at Fort Lee, VA.

     Col. Skeens conducted his graduate work at the University of Virginia.
