Virginia Private College Week 2001:
Tour Four Colleges, Apply to Three Free

High school students who visit four Virginia private colleges during the fifth annual Virginia Private College Week (July 30 – August 4) will receive application fee waivers redeemable at any three private colleges. With application fees ranging from $15 to $50, students could save as much as $100.

Governor Gilmore has issued a proclamation recognizing July 30 – August 4 as “Private College Week in the Commonwealth of Virginia.”

“We hope that many students and their families will participate and learn about the unique opportunities available at our well-known and well-respected colleges,” said Robert Lambeth, president of the Council of Independent Colleges in Virginia (CICV). “Our colleges offer an academic community where teaching comes first and students receive personal attention.”

Often described as “one-stop shopping,” Private College Week tours include informational sessions on how to apply for admission and financial aid. Sessions will be offered at 9 am and 2 pm Monday through Friday, and at 9 am on Saturday. Participants will receive a stamped “passport” at the first college they visit and should have it stamped at each college they visit. Passports with four stamps can be redeemed for three application waivers, which can be used at any of the 24 CICV member colleges.

All full-time students from Virginia attending a CICV institution in 2001-2002 will be eligible to receive a TAG award from the Commonwealth of Virginia for approximately $3,000.

For more information on Virginia Private College Week, contact the Council of Independent Colleges in Virginia at (540) 586-0606, or visit www.cicv.org.
