Roanoke artist Mark Young will be displaying
various pieces of his work in the E. Taylor Greer Gallery in Ferrum
Colleges Stanley Library. The show will run from September 10
through October 10. The artist will give a slide presentation on September
18, from 3:30-5:30 p.m. in the Stanley Librarys AV Auditorium.
Youngs work is crafted around the
dramatic use of light and color. The atmospheres of his paintings are
full of light, air and space, reflecting his knowledge of light and
shadow and his ability to render them in paint. Compositions will include
landscapes, portraits and still lifes.
Young is a contemporary realist whose
oil paintings have won awards in juried shows and art-publication competitions.
Private and corporate collectors around the country own his paintings,
and he has been commissioned to paint many portraits.
While a gifted natural painter at a young
age, Young did not pursue education in art, instead choosing to earn
a masters degree in business. After a successful executive career,
in 1995, he chose to leave the corporate world to fulfill his long-term
dream of creating oil paintings full time. Despite a 20-year hiatus
from working with brush and paint, Young has been a prolific and successful
painter.
