Dana Martin (D), candidate for the 8th District of the House of Delegates, was first to speak from stump at the Ferrum "old-time traditional stump meeting".
Gubernatorial candidate Mark Warner (D) arrived by helicopter and hurried over to catch a few minutes of Ralph Stanley's set before climbing the stump. Voters were treated to a few songs by the Bluegrass Brothers, the local bluegrass band who re-worked old-favorite "Dooley"for the Warner campaign.
The GOP candidates took to the stump behind Congressman Virgil Goode, Jr. (I), of the 9th District. Goode enthusiastically supported Earley, who stood flanked by Del. Allen Dudley (R), of the 9th Legislative District, and surprise guest Senator George Allen (R), former governor of Virginia.
All candidates took time to talk to voters and national and local media.
