Ten Ferrum Students Star in Broadway
Hit
A.R. Gurneys The Dining
Room will be recreated in Ferrum Colleges Sale Theatre March
22-25. The play originally opened in New York in February
1982 to critical and commercial success.
Its a social comedy that shows
the changing culture in America from 1900 to 1980. The play goes
back and forth between the past and the present to give audiences
some entertaining looks at the way manners have changed. It also
gives the audience a comic look at the generation gap. The play
does deal with adult language and themes, explains Professor
of Drama Wayne Bowman.
"I chose the play so I could use
as many students as possible. This play calls for 3 men and 3
women to play over 30 roles, but I decided to spread the characters
around among ten students who auditioned," explains Professor
of Drama Wayne Bowman.
The play is comprised of several vignettes
featuring the cast in different roles, personalities and ages
as they portray a wide variety of characters. The play is
set in the dining room of a typical well-to-do household.
The theater opens at 7:00 p.m. for the
Thursday through Saturday 7:30 p.m. shows, and the Sunday performance
will be a 2:00 p.m. matinee. All performances are free and
open to the public. For more information, contact Bowman
at (540) 365-4338.
