Community Support Puts Ferrum/CMN Dance Marathon Over the Top
Ferrum College, with area support, raised
almost $5,000 for the Childrens Miracle Network (CMN) on March
30, 2001. The final total raised was 40% higher than the $3,500 goal
for the 12-hour Dance Marathon.
All money raised at the Ferrum College/CMN
Dance Marathon will go to the Carilion Medical Center for Children at
Roanoke Community Hospital in Roanoke. The Center serves 2,800 sick
or injured children in western Virginia annually.
Were excited with the outcome
of our first effort for this worthy cause. The level of participation
from the students, faculty, and community members is greatly appreciated.
Were looking forward to next years event and hope that even
more local residents will come out and enjoy the good feelings that
come from helping the children in our region, said Elysabeth Utick,
assistant director of Student Activities at the College.
Ferrum College student organization Kappa Alpha
Sigma raised over $1,000 through donation jar placement in Rocky Mount
and Ferrum. Donations of $500 came from Greater Atlantic Bank and Phillip
Ramsey and Associates, both in Northern Virginia. Grand Piano and Furniture
of Roanoke donated $250. Door prize sponsors included: Dairy Queen,
Rocky Mount Bowling Center, Clarion Hotel, First National Bank, Elegant
Portraits, and Image Transfer and Design.
CMN Dance Marathon is the largest student-run
philanthropy in the nation.

Ferrum Students Dance to Benefit Area
Children
Ferrum students are holding the 1st Annual
Ferrum College Childrens Miracle Network Dance Marathon to raise
money for the childrens charity. The 12-hour event will start
at noon on March 30, but student fundraisers have already begun raising
the $3,500 goal.
This money will be available to
children in need in Franklin County and the Roanoke Valley. Were
very proud to bring the students together to raise money for a good
cause, says Tomi Merritt, Ferrum College senior and student director
of the dance marathon.
The Childrens Miracle Network, co-founded
by Marie Osmond and John Schneider, is an international non-profit organization
that relies heavily on volunteers, and 100 percent of donations go to
help children in the region from which the donations were given.
Over 50 colleges and universities, nationwide,
support the Childrens Miracle Network.
Area residents can participate in a variety
of ways. Students will have baked goods for sale at the Rocky Mount
Kroger Shopping Center on Saturday, March 24. Donation jars have been
placed at Franks Minute Market, Fuds Express Mart, and Crossroads,
in Ferrum and Bowling Place and 40 West Foodfare in Rocky Mount. Persons
interested in making a direct contribution can contact Elysabeth Utick,
