The Landscape Design and Management Class
gave their formal presentations on Thursday, December 13th. The two,
three-person teams each presented their vision for what the area between
Vaughn Chapel and the spillway from Adams Lake could look like in
the next few years. The students were (l. to r.) Matt Thurman '03,
horticulture major; Philip Davis '02, environmental science major;
Erich Henschel '03, horticulture major; Derek Woods '02, horticulture
major; John Divers '02, agriculture major; and Joe Brunk '02, environmental
science major.
The
teams proposed these plans to meet the needs of large groups who use
Vaughn Chapel, and to beautify the campus for students' and visitors'
enjoyment.

This plan for the Ferrum College Arboretum and Community Gardens incorporates
several botanical gardens for educational and aesthetic purposes.
One focal point of interest- the large FC, erected in gold bricks,
set against black grasses.

This plan is to utilize the indigenous trees in the region and showcase
the local heritage of trees and wetlands. This plan would be less
expensive to initiate and require less maintenance.
