Ferrum College, in partnership with Condensed Curriculum International (CCI), is launching two new programs in the allied health fields through its Lifelong Learning Program. The programs, Pharmacy Technician Certification and Medical Billing and Coding, are designed to prepare students to take the certification exams in each respective area. Both programs are scheduled to accommodate the adult learner by meeting in the evening or on weekends. Medical Billing and Coding is a 70-hour program that will meet on Monday and Wednesday evenings beginning on March 10th. Pharmacy Technician is a 50-hour program that will meet on Saturdays beginning March 15th. Both programs will be held at The Franklin Center in Rocky Mount.

The Pharmacy Technician Certification Program is designed to prepare students to enter the pharmacy field and to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s PTCB exam. Technicians work in hospitals, home infusion pharmacies, community pharmacies and other health care settings. Course content includes medical terminology specific to the pharmacy, reading and interpreting prescriptions and defining drugs by generic and brand names.

The Medical Billing and Coding Professional Program offers the skills needed to solve insurance billing problems, manually file claims (using the CPT and ICD-9 manual), complete common insurance forms, trace delinquent claims (EOB’s) and use generic forms (CMS 1500) to streamline billing procedures.

Log onto www.ferrum.edu/adult for more information about the programs or schedules. To register for classes, call Tammy King at 540-483-0179, ext. 2113.
