Board Chair: Mr. Paul L. Harris, ’65, of Reston, VA. Mr. Harris is retired from British Aerospace’s North American Operations.

President: Dr. Jennifer L. Braaten, Sixth Commencement (For more info: http://www.ferrrum.edu/president).

Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College: Dr. Leslie Lambert.

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Alice Brown, President of the Appalachian College Association (ACA), of which Ferrum College is a long-time member. Ferrum also awarded Dr. Brown with an honorary degree. For more, see: Commencement Speaker Press Release.

Senior Class Speaker: Mr. Mark E. Gish, Jr., of Hardy, VA will be the senior speaker for 2008. Mark is graduating with a B. S. in Political Science.

SGA President: Mr. Corey Scott Basham.

Special Recognitions:

Faculty - The Cheatham Fellowship was given to Dr. M. Katherine Grimes of Ferrum, VA.

Students:

  • The Senior Academic Excellence Award - Mrs. Lynn Clayton of Ferrum, Virginia; Mr. Porter A. C. Knight of Ashland, Virginia, and Mr. Rusty McPeak of Rocky Mount, Virginia.
  • The Arthur S. Owens Leadership Award - Ms. Amy M. Casper of Virginia Beach, Virginia.
  • The James T. Catlin, Jr., Citizenship Award - Mr. Derek-Lee K. Sewell from Winchester, Virginia.

Alumni - The Beckham Medallion, Ferrum’s highest alumni honor was awarded to Reverend David R. Drinkard ’77, of Lynchburg, Virginia.

Points of Interest

  • On Friday, May 2nd at 12:30 p.m. Ferrum College celebrated the arrival of the first modular unit of its newest resident hall during an outdoor ceremony led by President Braaten, members of the Board of Trustees, local dignitaries, and invited guests, including representatives of the industries that are involved in the construction of the residence hall.
  • Ferrum College is affiliated with the United Methodist Church.
  • There are 32 majors.
  • Total enrollment - approx. 1,214.
  • 24 states and 7 countries are represented in the student body.
