The Ferrum College Psychology Club is holding a book fair at Barnes & Noble at Tanglewood Mall from Friday January 25th through Sunday January 27th to promote literacy and raise money for Ferrum Elementary School and the Psychology Club. Special events are planned at the store on Saturday, January 26th from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sunday, January 27th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. These will include children’s crafts, coffee samplings, story times, and book signings to name a few.

During the entire three-days of the book fair, a percentage of purchases (including café items) made with a voucher at Barnes & Noble will benefit the elementary school and the club. Customers can also use the number on the voucher and buy books from Barnes & Noble on the Internet on those dates. “Wish lists” of books that Ferrum Elementary School needs will be available and customers can buy these books and donate the books to the school.

Sharon Stein, Associate Professor of Psychology at Ferrum College, says, “The Psychology Club has always been actively involved in service to others by participating in a variety of community projects. We also felt the book fair fits well with the college’s theme this year of “Social and Economic Justice” and the profession of psychology. We know how important it is for children to play – this is how they deal and adjust. Our goal in this current project is to promote the love of books in children by encouraging them to come to a bookstore, have fun with crafts and story time, and maybe pick out a book they’ll enjoy.”

Vouchers and other information are being sent home with Ferrum Elementary students and additional vouchers will be available at the Tanglewood Barnes & Noble store. For more information on the upcoming bookfair, contact Sharon Stein at 365-4393 or sstein@ferrum.edu
