Ferrum College is looking for its own “Biggest Loser” in a campus-wide competition to find the person who can lose the most amount of weight. Approximately 40 students, faculty and staff have signed up to compete in the 10-week contest. This race to shed the most pounds is different from the popular television show in that Ferrum participants must work out and diet completely on their own; no personal trainer is there to push them along the way.

“We wanted to try to promote a healthier lifestyle and healthier eating habits and this is a way we can do that,” says freshman Andrew Maxwell, organizer of the contest. “We have about 40 faculty and students working out and eating right to win this competition and many say they’re already seeing results,” he says.

The competition, which began at the end of January, will continue until the final weigh-in on April 8th. The winner will be chosen by the percentage of body fat lost so everyone will have an equal chance to win. The next weigh-in is scheduled for February 26, at 8:30 p.m. in the Panthers Den in Franklin Hall. The campus community is welcome to attend and cheer on their favorite contestant. If the winner is a student, they will receive $300 in cash. If a faculty or staff member wins the competition, they walk away with bragging rights! For more information about Ferrum College’s Biggest Loser competition, contact Andrew Maxwell at (804) 502-8899.
