The aluminum seats were purchased just prior to the demolition of Roanoke’s Victory Stadium, which took place from June 26 through July 5 in 2006. The facility was built in 1942 and had a seating capacity of approximately 25,000. Ferrum’s football stadium capacity is 5,500. The Panther football program earned National Junior College Athletic Association championships in 1965, 1968, 1974 and 1977. Ferrum was also the NJCAA national runner-up in 1966. Former Head Football Coach Hank Norton guided the Panther football program from 1960-93, registering an impressive 244-77-11 career coaching record. Norton was named the NJCAA Coach of the Year in 1965, 1968 and 1974. In 1988, Norton was named NCAA Division III Coach of the Year by Pigskin Preview Magazine. He coached 46 All-Americans at Ferrum, and over 40 of his players went on to play professionally. Since joining the NCAA Division III ranks in 1985, Ferrum has made five trips to the playoffs; 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990 and 2005. Norton was at the helm during the first four playoff runs, while current coach Dave Davis led the Panthers to the playoffs in 2005. Under Davis, Ferrum has won a share of USA South titles three times; in 2001, 2002 and 2005. Other football renovations at Ferrum include a new practice facility, developed from January-July of 2007 and currently in use by the Panthers, and the installation of a new football scoreboard in September of 2005. Future plans include the installation of a new press box, in time for 2008 season. For more information, please contact the Ferrum College Sports Information
